Default Back to BB

Back again.

Very tired of my iPhone, waiting on the new iOS5 but OD'd anyway.
RIM was kind enough to replace my fried 9800 (that I broke) with a free brand new one via Rogers and I forgot how nice a unit it is, so it's back to BB for awhile, maybe longer than I think!

I know "being tired of a cellphone" is a pathetic statement of the modern world, but what can I tell ya, unfortunately I'm not immune...yet.

Nice to be back.

PS I'm not buying into all this BB bashing going on in the press. These are solid products that will not go away anytime soon.

Welcome back. The light was left on just so you'd find the way back.

9800 is a good device, but the 9810 is a whole lot better!

I was becoming convinced that an i-Phone was in my future (and I'm getting one for my wife this week) and was not happy. I need BB's parsimony with data for international travel. I do not want to be "back with BB" after a really expensive international data charge.

The 9810 showed up (barely) in time. I have the solemn word of ATT that my BB $65/month unlimited international data plan will be restored on 9/16 and my life will be fine at least until my new contract expires in 2013 or RIM goes broke.

I am very pleased with the 9810. I like the big screen far more than I dislike the tiny keyboard, YMMV. The device gets the international test in China in early November.

I took out a Rogers temp roaming plan for a 3 week Asian trip this past spring, something like 10mb of data for some outrageous price, but I put the iphone away and reinstated the BB for the trip and still came in under the data budget despite tons of emails and text messages. The iphone would have blown thru 10mb in about 3 emails.

The low overhead of the compressed BB data really saves a ton of bandwidth, and that translates to cold hard cash in my pocket.

'Nuff said.

I also cant stay away. I have left BB twice and both times I have came back. I switched carriers a few days ago. Left Verizon and went to AT&T and picked the new BB 9810 as my phone. I love having a phone that can be used with one hand. Had a Verizon Thunderbolt before. BB's have some things that I missed when I tried the iphone and android..immediate emails, sync flawlessly with outlook and have all day battery life. The thing BB's are missing... Real 4G!!!!!!! Coming from Verizon AT&T 4G is pathetic! My HTC Thunderbolt hotspot was as fast my Comcast Cable Internet at home. The next thing BB has got to get is a freakin hotspot. I can tether my BB with my Laptop but I am a police officer and I am constantly in differnet squad cars and dont have the time to install the connection manager on every laptop I use. In the meantime I will just use a Verizon 4G LTE MIFI and my BB for calls, calender & email.

2 HUGE items for me, despite their apparent low profile in the OS: 1) auto on/off, and 2) auto extension dialing. Just don't understand why Apple doesn't do that...

Seems like every platform has it's Achilles Heel. My wife uses an iPhone on AT&T, and my son is getting one on Sprint about 3 seconds after they're released. I'm a huge Apple fanboy, but the iPhone just doesn't interest me. They do so many things right as far as out-of-the-box user experience but missing features leave me scratching my head sometimes.

I was using an HTC Evo 4G for a good 6 months, and while there was plenty to love, other things ruined it for me. Poor battery life was major, as well as the inability to organize contacts by last name. Apparently this last thing is an issue with HTC's implementation of the contacts app.

While I don't want to change the way I work just because my phone does something differently, I'd have no problem doing so if the change represented a better/smarter way to do that thing. For me, BlackBerry just plain got it right. BB works the way I do so it's my platform of choice.

+1 for the "afford" part. My 9810 cost me < $50 all in, and I can leave it on when I leave the country. That same $50 would also get you a I-Phone 3Gs and an international data bill larger than a normal car payment.
