Question Contact-Specific Silenced Alerts & Ringtone

Please Login to Remove!

Hello Folks

I'm attempting to differentiate contacts by their alerts and ringtones. I have been successful at finding some information along that line. However, what I have not found is how to SILENCE ALL alerts (ringing, messaging) for individual contacts. It would appear I am forced to choose ringtones and alerts - that there is NO silent choice for any of the profile options - nor volume control.

I do not want to have to mute my phone entirely in order to silence one inconsiderate caller's manic, middle-of-the-night calls. I just need to silence the person's calls and alerts - set technological boundaries, if you will - whilst keeping my preferred profile active.

I would be eternally grateful for any assistance.

Thank you all very much for your advice in advance

Contact Alerts apply across all profiles.

You can set the Contact Alert's volume to "Active Profile" and it will follow the volume/silent setting for the overall profile. But you can't set the Contact Alert to silent while the rest of the device isn't silent (or on vibrate).

Could you add an mp3 of silence, and set that as a contact alert? It would be silent always...

Or you can use message alerts (a program I've extolled the virtues of in the past) or something similar and program him into a 9-5 box.

I ran into this exact problem recently. I had custom ringtones and message alerts for a handful of important contacts. Within the contact itself the alerts were set to "always" instead of "active profile". Changing that solved everything.

Thank you all for your contributions to this thread. I'm happy to report I've moved yet one step closer to understanding my BB. To resolve this conundrum, I learned how to set up independent alert profiles. Please, see steps below:

- Select a Profile
- Change Sounds and Alerts
- Sounds for Contacts
- Add Contact Alert
- Name the contact alert
- Add contact(s) you wish to include in this Contact Alert profile
- Under "Contact Alert Settings", configure the desired phone and msg alerts for the contact(s)
- Set Volume by either choosing "ACTIVE" in which case volume setting will be that of the active profile - or - set the volume independent of the active profile by selecting a level between 10 and 1 or Silent.
- LED, vibrate, vibrate w/ ring, message alerts, etc can all be set independent of the active profile as well.

One caveat. If your method of updating your contacts via BB Desktop is to re-write one way your entire address book from Outlook to the BB, then the Contact Alerts will have to be configured again (ask me how I know that...)

Otherwise, using contact alert profiles works a treat. The contact I have in my "Silenced" alert profile called this a.m. I got only the LED alert - no ring, no vibrate - which is what I intended. A contact that I have in one of my clients groups alert Profiles called yesterday. I have a different ring tone for those clients - and have the volume set to ACTIVE (profile). Worked a treat for this profile as well.

I'm a happy camper... Thank you all again for your contributions!
