Thank you all for your contributions to this thread. I'm happy to report I've moved yet one step closer to understanding my BB. To resolve this conundrum, I learned how to set up independent alert profiles. Please, see steps below:
- Select a Profile
- Change Sounds and Alerts
- Sounds for Contacts
- Add Contact Alert
- Name the contact alert
- Add contact(s) you wish to include in this Contact Alert profile
- Under "Contact Alert Settings", configure the desired phone and msg alerts for the contact(s)
- Set Volume by either choosing "ACTIVE" in which case volume setting will be that of the active profile - or - set the volume independent of the active profile by selecting a level between 10 and 1 or Silent.
- LED, vibrate, vibrate w/ ring, message alerts, etc can all be set independent of the active profile as well.
One caveat. If your method of updating your contacts via BB Desktop is to re-write one way your entire address book from Outlook to the BB, then the Contact Alerts will have to be configured again (ask me how I know that...)
Otherwise, using contact alert profiles works a treat. The contact I have in my "Silenced" alert profile called this a.m. I got only the LED alert - no ring, no vibrate - which is what I intended. A contact that I have in one of my clients groups alert Profiles called yesterday. I have a different ring tone for those clients - and have the volume set to ACTIVE (profile). Worked a treat for this profile as well.
