Default Just signing up to a BB and have questions. *NEW QUESTION* lol

Please Login to Remove!

firstly, THANK YOU for existing, website rocks!

Ok, so I'm about to go BB as of tomorrow (opgrading from a Moto V635) because I find I don't talk alot, I text alot.

Regarding data usage... the plan I'm looking at is $45/month for .5mb data and 150 anytime minutes. My question about data is this: how many KB's does it take for things like email and msn messenger. I know I can have my emails from hotmail "pushed" to my BB but I don't want them coming all the time, just when I'm not near a computer. And I don't see myself spending very much time in MSN chats, just would like to know that it's there and how much data it's using. See that's the thing, when I would go online with my phone, it tells me that rogers is charging 5cents a kb but it doesn't say how many kb's each site is and crap.

with that said, do you think the .5mb is going to be enough? I just read about someone doing 56mb's in one month and that's crazy! Without anyone giving me info, the only way I'd be able to figure out my usage would be to just use the thing for a month and see what happens but that sounds kinda risky. I appreciate any help you guys can offer. Thanks.

It is really difficult to say as it depends on your usage. I use my BB for email and some web surfing. Since Jan 10, I have used over 5 MB of data.

Not sure you can didctate when you get your email pushed either. I think that is done automatically.

BB is mainly an email machine. If you aren't going to use it for that, then you may want to look at a PDA such as the HP6515 or the Treo 650 which has POP3 email support, as opposed to email push.

guess I'll just have to sign up for the cheapest plan and see where it goes.

although I was thinking about it... the $45 rogers plan gives me 150 minutes and .5mb. then if I add free eve/wknd that's another $15 plus you factor in call display ($5), voicemail($5) and the text package I'd need ($10) I'm already up to $80 month for another $10 I'd get the unlimited plan. *shrug* maybe I should call them and see.

OK, so I got everything set up and now I have a question about email. I setup my 7290 to receive emails through my gmail account. I don't think it makes a difference which account I'm using, but what are the costs associated with having emails sent to my device? are they considered a for of text messaging and I'll get free incomings and pay for outgoings or what? Could someone on Rogers please explain how this works for billing. Thanks.

Oh, and is there REALLY no way to keep track of data usage? Seems a bit evil on the providers side.

Irrguy,

How about just get the unlimited plan, and never worry about how much your data usage is.

because that's twice the money I'm paying per month right now... and if I don't need it all why pay for something I'm not using?

I understand the twice as much and not paying for something your not using. I guess I look at it differently. I rather have it when I need it, and never have to worrie about going over. I would rather pay a litle extra for the piece-of-mind it brings. And I always know how much my Wireless bill is every month, because it's the same, and I can expect it and budget myself for the same amount every month.................

Good luck, and I hope you find the pricing plan that fits your needs and budget too.

thanks.

and the unlimited plan is as unlimited as most would like to believe as I'm finding out from other users. But for me, 25mb/month seems like alot. Guess you have to be pretty wired into your BB to use more than that. Mine isn't for business, it's just me and I like toys. Cell phone was nice for a while but I wanted more. Mostly just for checking my emails when I'm not at home and text messaging. I think If I stick to that I should be ok with half a meg. It's not like my 7290 has a lot of customizable options to need me on the web alot (ringtones, wallpapers, screensavers) like my cellphone did.

I understand 100% with ya. I'm really not sure how much I use, and to be honest with you, I don't care. I have my work e-mail and my personal e-mail pushing to it, 24/7 so I'm sure it adds up over a months time.

Take Care,

Matt
