My wife just activated her device, and this morning she told me she could hear it making hissing/crackling sounds once in a while - not loud, but audible in a quiet room. The speaker volume is turned down, and there is no music playing (or paused).

Any idea what this might be?

That's a new one. Is it possibly a custom audible alert and the file is boogered?

My opinion is if you can't identify the cause (and correct it), don't wait, exchange it.

It's been activated all of two days. She hasn't done a thing to the profiles, so I know it's not a bad audio file.

I tend to agree with you, the more I think about it.
