Default Help with Curve 9300

Please Login to Remove!

Just bought one of these off ebay but its locked to Rogers. I want to use it with a different carrier. It seems the only way to do so would be to get the code from Rogers (which they didnt say how much it cost, they just said to bring it in to a store and there will be an "unlocking fee"), or to use one of those websites that need your IMEI and $10 or so. My question is, has anyone used one of these services and found them to be permanent and legitimate? Or are they a scam nearly everything else on the internet? lol. Has anyone unlocked a phone through Rogers or similar? what did they charge?

Thanks

Depends on the vendor, I suppose. See sponsors of this forum, as well as the link at the top of the forum for the service sold by the forum. Also search to see what has been recommended by others. Reputable sellers will refund your money if the code doesn't work.

What BB model did you get? It would help to know that.

Our unlocking service is legit. Just hope that someone hasn't tried to unlock it and in the process locked it to the branded carrier for good. Can and does happen.

But by buying on eBay, you are never really sure what you have. Read our FAQ article about buying a used BB from eBay.

Thanks for the replies guys. Its a Curve 9300. I haven't got it yet but I've been looking around online and found you need to input MEPD at the sim card menu to see the exact status of the device. I don't think they guy is going to include his sim card with it so is it possible to do this without a sim card as well as put in MEP2 and see if all the tries have been used up? If not can I just buy a new sim card and check this without a problem? I plan to put it on a pay as you go plan with another carrier. Thanks again guys.

Also research your carrier options. You will need data service specifically for BlackBerrys if you plan to use BlackBerry branded data. You'll need a service provider that supports BlackBerrys. And, getting BlackBerry data service on a pre-paid account could prove difficult.

My carrier which my contract just expired with offered me a pre paid blackberry plan with 100 min talking, 250 texts, and unlimited bbm and social networking for $30 a month if I stick with them which is why I want it unlocked from Rogers. Gave that faq a read, I already did a few of those things, mainly asking for and making sure the IMEI checked out first and foremost. But do I need a sim card to do the MEPD and MEP2 stuff? It would save me having to buy a sim card and/or looking like an idiot when I try to get it set up at Bell only to find out all the unlock attempts have been used up lol

BTW, the social media plan does not include email or Internet. If you don't need it, then you are OK.

I'm aware. I'm just looking to find the cheapest way to get a BB. Going the unlocked and prepaid way will save me hundreds over the years as opposed to a 3 year contract which start at the low to mid 40s a month where I am
