I am wondering if anybody writes there Blackberry off on there taxes? I use my cell phone for 90 percent work and my Palm Tx for work. Do you just file it under work expenses?

Yes, I write the hardware off. My firm reimburses the montlies so I don't double dip, but if they didn't, I would.

Yes I do, or should I say my accountant does.

Same here. I work in Public Safety and deduct my hardware and usage costs that are not paid by my employer.

It's like any other deduction. Treat like a cell phone or laptop or other device that you buy and maintain solely for work purposes..

I work for Local government as a firefighter is there any discounts for BB plans? I know I get a discount from Nextel on the voice plan but wonder about the BB plan?I really want one of these but don't know if I want a 100.00 cell bill each month.

Tritan, you might be able to get a discount through your city (or fire authority) from your provider. Check to see if there is a local rep for your organization. The discounts can be pretty good. I was getting 28% off on the data and voice plan.

I would assume that Nextel would provide the same discount on the BB and on the voice plan, I get a straight 19% corporate discount for the total bill from Cingular, and my wife works for Disney

I also write off everything, but then I am incorporated, so it is a business owned device and there is no expense too small to write off

I don't think I follow. I went to my local store and they are great to me. I asked them if I can get a discount on the plans and they claimed I will only get a 10 percent discount on the voice and data plan from nextel/sprint.That was data and voice combined. I really think there has to be somthing else out there. I really getting sick of carrying a I870 nextel and a Palm TX. I have a 15 dollar internet plan to check email but replying is a chore threw the keyboard!!
If I can write off the hardware and talk to someone about knocking some of the data plan down I will be BB all the way. With a data plan and voice you end up paying over 100.00 bucks!! How do you guys do it !!

Nearly all BB plans are going to run you 90-95 bucks. You can bet on it. Counting voice anyway. I have the large corporate discount from Nextel and it is 18% "enterprise acct access discount".. not sure what all that means. For me it means I work for a Fortune 5 company and you get discounts on nearly everything...

However.. the best discount is on HW.. I bought my last BB for 49.00 +tax/shipping and had a $100 rebate... so it paid me about $40 to buy it. The online price at the time was $249 with the $100 rebate knocking it down to $149. I think HW is a 40% type deal on phones and 25% on accessories.

Long story short, if you need to get push email and PDA functionality.. then get the BB, if only using MMS/SMS type stuff and maybe some Mobile IM, then get yourself a freebie phone and a small data package from the Sunday ads.

Is there a penalty for dropping your nextel contract with a government plan?
