Default Backing up messages to/importing from googlemail

Apologies if this has already been asked/in the wrong area...

Basically my beloved HTC Desire HD was stolen yesterday and I'm thinking of getting a Blackberry to tide me over until my contract runs out. [So no, I don't actually have one yet - sorry admins!]

Anyway I used an app - SMS Backup+ for those who know Android - to back up my texts/call log so I have all my messages saved in Googlemail and I was wondering if there was a way to restore these back onto a Blackberry the way you would be able to an Android. I've googled it but having not owned a Blackberry before I'm pretty clueless and just need someone to spell it out for me!

Not sure if the Blackberry model is relevent but I'm thinking of getting a Curve 9300.

I've had so many issues with my phones in the past year that I really can't be doing with the hassle of getting all my contacts back etc. so being able to import them all from googlemail via the messages is really important to me!

Honestly, if you already live in the Googlesphere, I would stick with Android.

Really? I do love Android but I kind of have an urge to try out a BB that I need to fulfil, as bad as that is. Out of interest do you say that because of how notorious BBs are for crashing or just because Android is generally better?

Actually, none of the above. BlackBerry devices are not notorious for crashing, and Android is not necessarily better, but in my opinion, if you use Google products such as Gmail as your primary personal information management, then Android is the best mobile environment to use.

There are many better devices out now than the DHD as well. I would look at the Samsung Galaxy S II, the Google Galaxy Nexus, and the HTC Holiday.
