Default Help - 8520 motherboard query

Please Login to Remove!

My daughter has snapped the USB connector from the motherboard for the second time. I send the 'phone off for repair and this time they said it has voided the manufactures warranty.

I'm not a techie and I've searched high and low for a replacement motherboard but obviously these are not readily available thru spares websites. I assume, with my limited knowledge, that it's something to do with IMEI's that are locked down to specific carriers therefore this part of the 'phone is not readily available?

Does anyone know of a way I can get the 'phone repaired as opposed to buying a new one? It there a way of just getting the USB charging bit soldered back onto the motherboard?

TIA.

You can pay for repair but it will be costly. The main board is coded with the BB pins and other info that only RIM can fix. Some repair shops can fix the usb connector provided it has not cracked the motherboard.

One solution is to get her a standard cheap phone or a throwaway. Most new BB's have an even smaller connector and she may break it faster.

my kid got two chances and then they got the cheapo

Hi, just stumbled upon your post whilst looking for something else... anyway, I work at a RIM repair center in the Midlands, and it'd be cheaper to get a new phone. I'd suggest that the first time you sent the phone in you got pretty lucky, its rare that a phone comes into us with a missing USB where it's came of cleanly. Most of the time what happens is the USB drags a bit of the circuit board up with it, rendering the phone beyond economical repair.
