Using a BB 9900 on BIS. Have Protect set for daily backup, wifi only - but I am quite often at home and hence connected for plenty of time each day.
Protect kept saying "temporarily unavailable" after getting through about 98% of its backup routine. So I did a full hard reset (which is a headache and not something I'd rush to do again). After that Protect backed up once - and then for subsequent backups, I got the same message.
So I uninstalled Protect, rebooted, and reinstalled. Again the backup worked fine once. And now subsequent backups get the same failure message, still at about 98%.
Solutions would be gratefully received - many thanks for your advice.
Here's what I recall. I may be wrong, but it's worth checking out:
BlackBerrys normally authenticate themselves to the RIM infrastructure via the cellular data network. They will pass data over wifi, but only if they have authenticated themselves first. If you have no cellular signal or have turned off cellular data the authentication process may not complete and BB Protect over wifi will fail.
I would check all the options for both BB protect and WiFi. I also found some interaction with an App that was using WiFi( a Weather App)
Can you force a backup?
I was playing around and found my WiFi was not connected although I thought it was.
I also deleted the weather app.Go to the connections options and see if you router is listed.
I would suggest Rim has some issues with the service at this point. Mine is sitting at 0% and nothing seems to force it to run. Weird but maybe their CEO is in charge of this service also.
aparently it wont do a backup unless the phone is on the carrier it is registered to. Mine was roaming to Verizon and it wont work in the area i'm in. Learn something new everyday.
