Default Question with Instant Messaging with T-mobile

Please Login to Remove!

I am planning to get the Blackberry unlimited international e-mail plan from T-mobile and the representative told me that I get unlimited data. I asked them about Instant Messaging and they told me that there are two ways, one is if I go to T-zone and send msg and that will cost extra. The other way (which I don't understand what he was saying) is free. Can somebody explain to me how I can use instant messenging for free on blackberry. Thanks

You don't get unlimited "data" with the BlackBerry international e-mail plan. This plan, at $19.99, is an add-on to a BES [$29.98] or BIS [$19.99] feature and ONLY provides unlimited e-mail when roaming internationally. Be warned, if you use your BlackBerry overseas, this feature does not cover web browsing or data transmitted via 3rd-party apps.

In response to your instant messaging query, I suggest you get VeriChat or IM+ (I prefer the former) if you don't want to incur additional SMS charges from using that horrible IM app provided by T-Mobile, courtesy Oz.

IM can be done with either data or SMS text messages. The latter is not considered data and will be an extra charge in most cases. Some of the T-Mobile plans with come bundled with phone minutes, unlimited data and unlimited SMS.

If you use the T-Mobile IM Client for the BB, it uses SMS so you'll need the appropriate text package. If you go with a third party IM program, most use data so you won't uses any sms text messages.

yea i was told something on the same idea. They said that instant messages are 25 cents and text messages are 7 cents(like usual). The person I talked to sounded like they had no idea what they were talking about. I called again and got someone that said that you can't use instant messanger on the phone, I laughed and said ok then hung up. I am going to just use ramble for a few messages and see if im charged anything. That uses the data not sms.

So the unlimited blackberry intl e-mail doesn't have unlimited data? Cause what they did was to add that plan to my existing voice plan (39.99). What else do I need to get in order to have unlimited internet access?

you can check your tmo account online and see how many text messages aka "units" that you have used.
