Blackberry operating system

I went to the sprint store to get a new blackberry and was told that the operating system is crashing throughout north america. they discouraged me from getting a blackberry and was shown a different phone an android. Is this true or just a ploy. Is blackberry becoming obsolete. sprint says within 1 year blackberry is done.

Re: Blackberry operating system

People have been saying that BlackBerry will be gone in under a year for a couple of years now.

The truth is BlackBerry has been loosing market share to Apple and Android. Obviously the people buying those devices either feel that they provide the function and experience they are looking for, or have been convinced by a vendor. Research In Motion has been developing new hardware that will run a new operating system, BlackBerry 10. If you buy a BlackBerry today it will never be able to run the new operating system because the hardware will be very different. Many people are happy with their current devices, but only you can decide if you would be happy with a current BlackBerry device for however long you would be using it, especially as the iPhone 5, new Android devices, BlackBerry 10 and Windows Mobile 8 devices hit the market.

Only time will tell if BlackBerry 10 will turn the sales trend around. RIM intends to continue to market and support the current devices and operating system as a lower cost option to BlackBerry 10 so I don't beleive you need to worry about getting service for the life of your purchase.

Finally, if what the sales person told you is correct, then why is Sprint still offering BlackBerry devices for sale? If the sales person is such an expert in the mobile device market to know which companies will be arround in a year, why are they working in a store and not in corner office at company HQ?

An additional problem is RIM has no new hardware to sell, hasn't for several months and won't until next year.

AS far as the executive suite, they aren't that convinced about RIM's future either..
Sprint is excited about Blackberry 10, but unsure of its future | Ubergizmo

At the end of the day, what you were told was incorrect, but Sprint doesn't have that much to offer.

My BlackBerry 9930 on Sprint was the finest BlackBerry I've ever owned. I consider it RIM's high watermark in hardware. I still have my 9930 in a charging desktop cradle in case I want to jump back to BlackBerry. I also have my BB 9650 ready to rock. I like to keep my options open. :) The reps at the Sprint store are dopes. Either of these two models will give you years of great use.
