Question Total noob question

Please Login to Remove!

Hi...hoping someone here can help me. I basically want a Phone/PDA combo, but don't really care about getting on the internet, or getting my emails pushed to me.
I thought about a treo 650, but think i'd be happier with a BB if it'll work. (Too many friends who have gone through SEVERAL Treo's) I'm on Cingular, and don't want a data plan, but would like to know if I can set something on the BB (7290 is what I'm looking to get) so NO data will go through and no email will be setup.
And just use it for a phone/organizer/pda.

I did a search, but really couldn't find anything...
Hope its not too stupid a question...

thanks!

You should be able to set it up with just a voice plan and use it in the way you're wanting to. The BB won't be able to send any data without the data plan activated on the account.

What other opinions would you like? I believe yesterday there was at least one thread which asked the same question.

Can you do it? Yes.

Will it work? Yes - just get a plain old voice plan. No data. No Internet. You will get voice and SMS only. And a "Data Connection Refused" at the top of the screen.

Should you do it? Why? The BB specializes in wireless e-mail. It is a decent PDA but nothing extraordinary.

Feel free to come back, please do.

It's just that these types of question ("Can I use my BB without a data plan") or more frequently ("Can I get Internet without the data plan") are asked frequently.

And if it wasn't for people answering them, over and over and over and over, then they would have to call their carrier and get the wrong information.

I am sorry you feel that way. No one besides TomN bothered to answer this question in over 24 hours.

Maybe you're right. The people who always answer the questions should STOP and let others join in.

Any volunteers? This questions sat for quite a while. Any volunteers? Or is everyone too concerned about "bashing".

While your last statement is true, there are several problems with repeated posts asking the same question, from people that don't bother to do any research or even read the Users Guide. One is that it makes it more difficult to find the answer when you do search, the results are flooded with disparate returns.

Another is that it greatly increases the size of the database making searchs more difficult to word properly, increasing the costs of running the site and slows down access.

Rant over

No biggie...no need for you children to bicker- I promise, this is the last time I'll visit this forum. Too many other places on the net to visit where people are at least cordial.

NJBlackBerry- sorry I'm not as "expert" as you on searching the forum...I really didn't find my answer before I posted.
sorry you're from new jersey. i'll assume that's the reason for the attitude.

rcbjr- like I give a rat's butt about the size of the forum.

I should not have responded to the question. You already had the right answer, but you wanted a second opinion, based, I assume, on the geographic location you are from, and the fact that you don't trust people. Or is that an incorrect?

Listen - you have your answer. Twice.

I am locking this thread since it clearly will not help anyone who chooses not to search.

Sorry if this has offended anyone (actually, I don't really care, after all, I am from New Jersey). Ignorant.
