Short answer is no.

You need a Blackberry data plan to access the Internet via either the carier's cell network or WiFi.

You don`t need data plan to access internet by WiFi. That i know for sure ...

Maybe your carrier allows it or maybe you have a wifi service book. Many carriers require the BB dataplan before shipping the wifi service book.

Yes, i can see the service book. I believe that`s the key. I thouth if there is a service book for using the WiFi, there should be a one for using the Gprs. So I`m asking the experts in this forum for some enlightment ... I want to screem : Educate me, Obi One

No, you bought your device used and it's there from the previous owner. You did not get any service books without a BlackBerry data plan and you won't.

I have here a T-Mobile brand 9700. I did a security wipe on it. No SIM card installed. The wifi browser works. Two service books are present, Wi-Fi TCP/IP Browser [BrowserConfig], and Wi-Fi TCP/IP Transport [WPTCP].

It's known that some carriers allow WiFi without a data plan -- T-Mobile for one -- and others do not. It appears to me that the WiFi service books are in the device software and the device branding determines whether they are enabled or not, else the have to be pushed to the device by the carrier, which in turn requires a BlackBerry data plan. At least that is how it appears to me.

I can see a possibility for how it is that the OP has the WiFi service books without a BlackBerry data plan.

As far as getting a notification when you get a response to your query on this forum, you can go to UserCP > Edit Options > and under Default Thread Subscription Mode choose "Instant Email Notification".

So if the previous owner had a data plan (which he did) he should also have a service book for using the default browser without WiFi, right - not the case, man.
2-3 days ago I did a wipe on my phone and the 2 service books mentioned by aiharkness were there, so I do also believe those come by default. The question still would be : Is there any chance to download from somewhere a service book which would allow me to use the default browser without WiFi or data plan, like I did in order to be able to use the Opera Mini without WiFi or data plan.

fcbayern, your carrier has given you the service books for wifi. Many, or maybe most, don't do that. But the carrier is not in the business of giving away mobile data. As stated above several times, you need a data plan to get those service books that will enable the RIM BlackBerry data services. No one on the forum is going to discuss ways to take those services without paying for them.

There is no service book for using the browser without WiFi or a BlackBerry data plan. The device was designed that way. You cannot download it because it never existed.

Based on some info on the internet, they use T-Mobile as a primary carrier so it seems as aiharkness said the WIFI service book is not removed.

fcbayern, from one of your posts above and from your posts over on crackberry (under a different handle) I gather you are using opera mini on the carrier's mobile network without a generic carrier mobile data plan. So, heads up, don't think this means you aren't paying for data. Have you seen your first bill yet?

I am paying for the internet, but is not a data plan. It`s just an unlimited internet connection through the carrier`s network. However I`m paying for it and thank god for Opera Mini, because otherwise I won`t be able to use what I`m paying for because some smartass designed the default browser only for WiFi or data plan internet usage.

Then you have a data plan -- a generic mobile data plan -- but not a BlackBerry data plan.

You are able to use opera mini because it uses the carrier apn and doesn't require (or use) the RIM BlackBerry services. Likewise, you will be able to use any other apps that similarly are not integrated with the BlackBerry data service.

BlackBerrys are different. A BlackBerry smartphone is intended to be used with BlackBerry data services. The BlackBerry handset is the hardware interface.

In my experience the BlackBerry data plan is the same cost as the generic mobile data plan, all things being equal. And the BlackBerry data plan is instead of, not in addition.

I can understand your frustration, but next time do a little research and ask the necessary questions up front before you buy.

I will start from the end of the post. No, man, I`m not frustraited. After all i still can use the internet throuh the carrier. I believe I`m more like surprised because of the RIM police to restrict internet usage in this way. But after using a BB for about a month I can tell they should change their slogan to " Why should it be easy when it can be difficult ? "
What You said about APN is exactly right. But You know what? When I asked my carrier to provide me with the necessairy APN they told me that my Blackberry can only be used with data plan. So I had to look around in forums like this one here in order to obtain the APN and also download a service book so I can use the prepaid internet. Speaking about prepaid internet I don`t know which country You are talking about, but where I live there is a huuuge price difference between both of them.

I hate to say this because half the people get mad at the suggestion, but the BlackBerry doesn't sound right for you. Plenty of people use a BlackBerry without a BlackBerry data plan for various reasons, but with the understanding of the limitations. But there is nothing hard about a BlackBerry until you try to use it in ways it isn't intended. When you have a BlackBerry data plan all falls into place as it should.
