Default non BES solution for 8700/exchange 2003

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I'm shortly going to have to set up 2 blackberry 8700 users.
Is there a non BES solution that doesn't require uses to delete emails from the blackberry AND exchange mailboxes?

thanks

Setup the users on BB desktop redirector. Redirector is like a mini BES but without some features such as viewing attachments. It should be able to reconcile email though I'm not sure if it is wireless or wired.

Another option is to go with T-Mobile's BlackBerry Internet Email option and setup the account using OWA or mail connector. However, with BIE, email reconciliation goes one way, meaning messages deleted on the BB delete on the mailbox but messages deleted on the mailbox do not delete on the BB.

Doesn't the desktop redirector require users to be logged on permanently though?

Yup. The computers running desktop redirector need to be up and running. Be sure to take that into account when setting them up if you choose that route. In other words, be prepared to deal with power outages or other issues that might cause desktop redirector to stop running.

Factor in the inconvience and limitations of the redirector when trying to justify $1,500USD/$2,000CAD for the 5-user BES SBS.
