I'm very attached to my email address (we'll say it's joe.blow@gmail.com). So I'm using that as my address that on my BB. So what I did was set up Gmail to FWD mail to my cingular BB address (joe.blow@mycingular.blackberry.net). Then I logged into my Cingular BIS account and told it to use joe.blow@gmail.com as my "sent from" address. Also, I set it to auto BCC my gmail address so that when I log into gmail via web browser I have an acurate representation of what I have and have no replied to (the only negative is having to manually mark them as read... but thats no biggie).

if bob.blow@gmail.com sends a message to me (joe.blow@gmail.com) and my friend and i read it on my BB and need to reply all.... it should address the message TO bob.blow@gmail.com and CC jim.user@gmail.com. However, the device doesn't recognize that joe.blow is the email that I want to use for the device so instead when I reply all it sends TO bob.blow@gmail.com AND joe.blow@gmail.com (myself) and CC jim.user@gmail.com.

This doesn't happen if the message is sent to my @mycingular.blackberry.net address.

Is there any way that I can set the device to recognize itself as so that it doesn't address replies to itself?

I tested using the gmail POP forwarding feature and the results were identical.

In your Gmail Settings > Fowarding and POP:
"Forward a copy of incoming mail to [joe.blow@gmail.com] and [keep Gmail's copy in the inbox]"

Or you can keep the copy in whatever folder or box you choose...instead of CC'ing or BCC'ing yourself...

Instead of forwarding the Gmail to your Cingular account, access it via POP3. Google has instructions on how to do it HERE. Personally, I have 4 email accounts set up on my BlackBerry in this manner. All replys show that they came from the proper account without ever having to change any settings.

i don't have any problems getting the mail to the blackberry or having replies show up on the web vi gmail.com... i don't like having to manuall remove myself from the list every time i do a "reply all". if possible i want the BB to see itself as instead of . it's adding when I reply all because it thinks that it is a different person and doesn't know that it is actually receiving mail from that account. does that still not make sense?

btw.... POP'ing my gmail to my BB was horrible. There was sometimes as much as a 15 -20 minute delay on getting a message delivered to the BB. forwarding works much more quickly... maybe 10 second delay at best.

Umm, yeah. That's the way BIS works. It polls your other accounts every 15 minutes. So it's not a "delay" per se. It's just not pushed to your device until the web client "pulls" it from your Gmail account.

ya... i knew it was doing a check and deliver. i just assumed the interval was more frequent than 15 minutes.

yer sorta being pushed towards BES with only getting the luxury of true 'push' email on your @blackberry.net address.

ya... i signed up for an exchagemymail account and tried it for a few days... but im kicking and screaming about changing email address ..... AGAIN. plus you can't beat 2+gigs of email storage.... compared to 100mb with EMM.

sorry, but no. like i said.. i'm not having problems getting messages delivered to the device. the reason I have it auto BCC'ing is so that when I reply from my BB I see the reply when I log into www.gmail.com. but again... thats not what I was asking... i'm fairly sure its not possible, but i was just trying to figure out if it was possible to manually change the address that the device sees itself as.

Odd, 8 replies and no direct answers to your question. As far as I know, there isn't a good way to prevent your gmail address from ending up as a recipient when you choose replyto all. Did it behave the same way when you polled your gmail account via POP?

I understand why you wouldn't want to use that method but it seems like it would be the most likely approach to resolve the reply to all issue.

I think the T-Mobile BIS behaves differently but I've forgotten how to adjust the forwarding from the various accounts to test it out (not that it would even be directly relevant to your issue).

i didn't figure it was possible... but ya never know and I thought it was worth a shot. if anyone thinks of anything... let me know.

When you reply to all on blackberry, it could include you in the list of email recipients, too. Not sure if it happens on specific version of blackberry software, or with the specific carrier, but it is known issue that will be addressed.

I can predict that as soon as it is addressed, there will be complains from people who used to have in desktop inbox a copy of each email they replied to from blackberry, and now can't.

When my office went to the new BES version it was Nirvana. Now the new BIS from Cingular will be the the same on Yahoo. Complete full reconciliation. So when will gmail get in this game. Can't be long. My understanding right now is that you won't have full reconciliation with gmail.

I have my BES receiving my gmail. However the way Gmail stacks threads in
a single message doesnt work with BB so it treats it as a new email and sends
it to my device. Hell, for some reason if I send an email from my PC gmail it shows
up on my BB. Like a sent messages folder. I need to look into that.
