My apologies in advance as I see this topic has surfaced in a variety of ways, but I do have a unique set of circumstances. Read on.....

I purchased a 7100i directly from Nextel and initially purchased it with a "5MB Blackberry Email and Web" plan. I was told it was mandatory. After a while I found the data plan too expensive along with my cellular charges. So I went out and purchased a Nextel I870 to replace it and cancelled the BB email plan as I was not using the BB anymore.

Since then I have had a change of heart. I dearly love the BB Calendar/PIM features and find the BB much easier to use for my GPS. I'd like to activate the BB again for telephone/GPS/PDA functionality with Nextel BUT WITHOUT the 5MB Blackberry Email and Web plan. I do not need email/web capability. I see that some have recommended buying "any old phone" for the SIM card and replacing the BB card with the one from the "any old phone" AND advising Nextel that it is not a Blackberry. Can I finangle this with using the SAME 7100i SIM CARD and get Nextel to activate as a NON-Blackberry phone?

nope because the minute you tell them the sim number its going to come up as a bb 7100i thats why they have sim numbers the best thing i can tell you is see if any of your friends have old nextels and get there sim and try and activate it that way

Call nextel again.......i know someone who uses a blackberry 7510 with no data services. he told me he called and said he does not want data, and they turned it off.

Compare your two sim cards. If they are the same model & PN, then just swap them out. I just went through the same thing when I got my 7100i. My i730 SIM was identical and when I put it in my 7100i, everything worked fine. This will GUARANTEE you will not have email/net, but this is what you are wanting anyway.

I just did as you suggested...swapped the I870 sim card to the 7100i. Worked like a charm. I did see a notification about Telenav GPS requiring a blackberry data plan after I tested to ensure working..hopefully the more expensive data plan does not get added automatically to my account. I already have "Unlimited Data Access".
