Default Verizon counts IM as text messaging?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi there,

New guy here. Is it me or does Verizon count IM (Verichat for me on the 7250) as text messaging?

My text messaging allowance was off the charts last month? Is there any way to make it count towards the data and not the TXT allowance?

Thanks

and glad to be here!

Data is data and SMS is SMS.
As far as I know, only t-mobile charges IM as SMS and that's using their own instant messenger

Verizon 7250 here.....Verichat usage should only go under Data, not SMS....never had a problem here w/that though. Not sure or how ur Verichat usage got counted under SMS. Do you have a unlimited data plan with Verizon?

I am with Verizon on a 7250 as well, I use Ramble and it counts as data. I have never been charged for sms at all.

As stated above, the type of data depends on the client not on the carrier. The TMO client uses SMS to carry the messages. And be real careful if you have a large buddy list!

'since downloading Ramble IM, it works wonderfully. It uses data, not text. That is as far as I know and I havent checked my T-Mobile bill just yet.

I deleted IM and IM messenging... I only use Ramble. It is supposed to use data not SMS

check your APN in Options. make sure it has tunnel open for your AIM for you to get free IM messages. If youre not sure, go to other thread in this forum "blackberry networking" then click on TCP thread, it will provide you enuf info.
