Default Is Blackberry what I need for working on the move?

Please Login to Remove!

Hello

Next month I am travelling across the EU promoting my website, I am a bit of a caveman when it comes to working virtually. I know very little about Blackberry, though I have a friend who has one with work and is always checking emails. I have a laptop (but again how can i use this on the go if i need regular access to the internet), but I am thinking it might be easier to just take a blackberry and rely on Internet cafes as well.

When you are travelling across the EU is it cost effective to use a blackberry to send and receive emails and take calls or is it so expensive it would cripple a one man self employed young business person. The countries I am going to be include France, Spain, Italy, possibly greece, cyprus, croatia, cyprus and Germany. I would be grateful if any experienced blackberry user could give me an idea of what this would cost, how practical it is or if you foresee any problems.

Thanks

Nick

One other thing I will be away for quite a while not just a month, possibly up to a year.

The BB is a very good solution. But GPRS costs will kill you .Have a look for a international BlackBerry plan from Vodafone or TMobile.

Oh dear! GPRS costs will killme, thats the problem ive got it in my head that every email I send is going to cost 1 or somethig like that. I have a mobile with GPRS, but never used it for more than calling, can this be attached to laptop?

How do these papparzi and journos operate on the go with their laptops in timbuctoo?

There must be millions of people like me with lap tops bought in the hope of working on the move but end up being as mobile as Oak trees.

Does anyone here regularly use a blackberry around Europa and if so how o you find costs.

Cingular offers wireless internet service for your laptop, it uses the same EDGE network as the Blackberry 8700c, you should look into that.

O2 in the UK offer a plan for 56 stg per month you get unlimited roaming usage. Which is probably close to 100 bucks, but I have no idea whether the US carriers support such a plan.

If you are in one country for a long period then you could get a foreign sim provided that your berry is not locked to singular or similar. For us europeans if we do this then we don't pay to receive voice calls not sure if this is the same with the US Calling Party Pays networks.

MrFace - Not sure too many of the Euro networks currently support EDGE.

Cheers
