Default New BB user - phone only question

Please Login to Remove!

Hey all, I was recently given a 7250 to use and have gone to Verizon to set up as a phone only customer. My question is - Can I still sync calendar and contacts without a data service? The guy told me it will count as data if I do.

If I can sync just contacts and calendar, How? This would actually help me to leave the old dinosaur iPaq home.

Thanks in advance for helping the new guy!

You can sync through a USB cable to your computer. You will not have wireless ability to sync.

IMHO - Without a data plan the 7250 BB is not a great choice for a phone. The data paln and your ability to perform email functions is the bread and butter of the device.

If your calendar and contacts are in Outlook, you would be able to sync that information using the Desktop software and the USB cable. No data would transmitted.

there is no data being used when synching up with a pc. unless i'm totally off on this, you can just sych up as any other bb user would using the desktop manager and selecting intelisync.
you can sync up with the wireless off on the the bb, so i don't see how you would get charged for data usage.
go ahead and sync!

Thanks for your replies.
I know it isn't a great phone, but was free and has bluetooth (which he gave three headsets). I mainly was interested in bringing my calendar with me and this afforded me the opportunity. I hope to be able to afford the data plan when my son graduates and moves out to college.
That's what I thought about the data, turn off wireless when I sync. So, I should use Desktop Manager instead of Redirector? I haven't installed anything yet and just need to know which program to load. Sorry for being dense, just new to this BB stuff.

When you install DM, install it as a BIS (non-redirector), should be the second option, you might want to download wipe the handheld and install the most current OS for the handheld too, just for grins.

Then you can sync your address book, calendar, notes and tasks? from outlook to your handheld by USB. The only thing you may need to watch out for is recurring items in your calendar have to have an end date.

ps, now how you can afford data when your son goes to college and not now is a bigger problem than getting the sync to work.

Just install your bb desktop manager software on your comp, then use docking kit, or usb cable to sync your bb with your outlook through the bb desktop manager. You are only transferring data through a wireline, and that data only sits on your bb memory and isn't wirelessly tranferred. I don't think it is possible for your carrier to charge you for syncronyizing your desktop data with your bb. Someone, pls correct me if I'm wrong!

Thanks! Now I have something to go forward with and feel comfortable in doing. I'll let you know how it goes.

As for the son going to college bit, he'll be getting a scholarship and a little extra. After private school tuition ends, it'll be like getting a raise!
