Question pdf -> only empty pages

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

on my BB7290 i used to open pdf-attachments without any problems. But a few days ago i see only empty pages. The number of pages is correct displayed and the mails are fine too. All other attachments (xls...) are fine too. We made no software-changes or something like that. We use no BES. All mails are pushed with the software cosynus out of Tobit.

Any ideas. Need my little friend... Thanks for helping

If they are scanned PDF's they will not show up. In other words if someone scanned the document to a PDF (the PDF pages are images) they will show up blank.

Also, if they are a character set that your blackberry doesn't support then they will show up blank.

Is there any good software available that allows us to open scanned pdf files?

guinda your options are:

1. scan to tiff
2. use Adobe Acrobat (Full) to OCR the PDF (the text is embedded in the PDF) There are probably cheaper tools too.
3. If you're at a large firm Xerox demoed us a scanning solution we can point our photocopiers at and it will OCR and email the resulting pdf. You can view the emailed pdf as an image too - have seen the result on a 7750.

If the .pdf's are truly scanned, they dont work with the Blackberry attachment service. We scan documents that our officers prepare, and email them out to a large number of people. These attachments will not open in the Blackberry (they are blank).
Pdf files that are created from a document, using Distiller, will open, and the text is readable. In fact, documents printed to PDF from CutePDF will also open in the Blackberry.

Before I posted the message above yours, I scanned in a document as a pdf on a canon copier and emailed it to myself. I was able to open/view the scanned pdf just fine.

I suppose the difference could be in the scanner settings at the time of the scan..
We scan hand-written documents that OCR software will not convert, so I use "Scan Picture" when I do the scans.
My thought would be that if I used "Scan Document" on a typed or printed document, I bet that I could read it (?).
