Default 7520 unit randomly drops direct connect numbers

Please Login to Remove!

Tried working on this with Blackberry support and had no luck. My 7520 phone generally works quite well. Also running BES 4.0 Service Pack 3. However, it does have an annoying problem. Every three to seven days it has a case of the stupids and loses my DC#'s (direct connect numbers.)

Here's the weird part. I look on the phone and see my contacts have no value for DC#. I go into Outlook and see that there is a number there for radio. I copy all of my contacts out of my contacts folder, then I copy them back in. I check the phone and the DC#'s are back.

This isn't a field mapping problem. The numbers WERE on the phone and WERE WORKING just fine. They just disappear after a while.

I'm stuck supporting these phones so I've tried doing some crazy things to see what I'd encounter from userland. One other oddness I've noticed is if I try wirelessly syncing a crazy large address book (a few thousand records) I'll eventually get the message overflow errors. I clear them out and the address books eventually seem to sort themselves out.

Has anyone heard of this problem? A few other people in the office have mentioned seeing it but there have been few recent complaints.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry7100/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

Try a test on one of the units. Delete all apps and files etc that are not absolutely necessary to free as much space as possible and try it out for a week or so. May be a low memory problem

I remember seeing something in here that stated the issue was when you put the DC numbers IN via Outlook versus in the BB itself.

The next time it happens try adding the DC number in to the contact and then resync. Should be fine. I never have the issue but all mine are manually input after syncing the contact in OL.

I thought the 7250 might have been in that series. Didn't see a 7250 forum. Perhaps I was too hasty?

Nice to see the site is back up now.

As for the unit itself, plenty of free memory, problem still keeps happening. Installed Service Pack 3 on the BES last week, we'll see if that does anything. I hope this is one of those problems they never really got around to documenting but just happens to get fixed in a seemingly unrelated patch.

The numbers are inputted via Outlook, not on the Berry. I also checked the field mappings and they're fine -- stands to reason they would be since it works for a while. A bad field mapping would fail right at the gate.

I've got the latest ginchy firmware updates now so I'm waiting to see when the next screwup happens. I like the changes they made with the web browser.

I have this problem about once a month with my 7100i. The only way to resolve is to delete the address book from the synced books and then re-add and sync. Very annoying.

I have a 7520 and I'm on a BES and I can't recall ever losing the DC's. Do you have wireless sync on your Berry?

Default Same Problem

One of my folks has the same issue. Just changing a contact in outlook enough to have it resync that contact fixes it for that record. I called in to support and they are reporting it now as a "Known Issue" under SDR 74564. I am still on hold as I told him I couldn't find that SDR on the Known issues list and wanted a description from their internal tracking system so I could make sure it is our issue. Will keep you posted.

Well, once I pressed him for a description of SDR 74564, he came back and told me that wasn't our issue and that it is not a "known issue". He recommended I get the OS current and try to recreate it. I have other things I am going to try first as that sounds as good as his initial "remove from BES and re-add" test that I didn't do.
