Default BB network/internet access via LAN/desktop

Hi,

Firstly, thank you to the contributors of this forum from whom I have learnt a lot about how to do various things on my new Blackberry 7100 (Vodafone uk) in the past week

I have seen the thread on using the Blackberry as a modem for a laptop but what I am looking to do is almost the opposite. I would like the Blackberry, when conencted to my desktop system via USB to use this a it's internet gateway (via our LAN and DSL connection) so basically I can access the internet on the Blackberry without using my cellphone providers data service (ie costing money). Is is possible to go via our regular lan connection instead while connected?

I managed to get this working when I used an IPaq but can't seem to find any option for it on the BB.

Thanks.

Sorry but no. No options such as this as of yet.

I think with BES 4.0/Desktop Manager 4.0/Handheld Code 4.0 might be able to do that. When you cradle your BlackBerry you can have E-mail redirected through the Desktop Manager. Possibly MDS will work as well? I have never played with it so I'm not sure how it works. That's what that new application with the Desktop Manager 4 does though....

You're half right T-Roy. The desktop redirector will connect to the blackberry router service, which in turn routes your BES email/calendar/tasks/etc. But I (not has anyone I've spoken to) have found a way to actually utilize this connection to browse the net.
