I just got my Blackberry 7280 today. When I charged it up and turned it on, it doesn't get past the screen saying "Blackberry Wireless". If you press a key, a screen pops up asking for an unlock code to get further. What unlock code is it asking for and where do I get it. It will say this if the sim is in there or not.

I got it from ebay. The guy has a high feedback count and 99% positive feedback.

From what you are telling me, it sounds like there is an unlock code stored on the device (for security reasons).

I would call the seller. He probably didnt wipe the handheld either.
He should let you know what the password is. Then change it or delete it.
I have sold 3 Blackberry devices on EBAY, and bought a couple. I have had good luck with sellers, as they usually are professionals (at least that is my experience).

He doesn't have a phone number on ebay and looking him up online only shows his address. I've emailed him twice but no reply yet.

I modify firmware on Motorola phones and I know this is different but not that different. Is there a URL on doing what you mentioned about wiping the device?

I'd keep sending email messages to the seller, and maybe try "Googling" him for a number (if you know his location).

Check on a program "Java Loader" on this site. I think you have the ability to wipe the device from there.

Won't entering the wrong password ten times wipe the Blackberry anyway? There is info in this forum about what I suggest. Don't do anything 'til you search and see if that's the case.

Yes, from what I have heard after 10 incorrect attempts the handheld wipes it's self clean.

It did wipe itself but the policy is still there.

I went step by step and it still has that policy on it.

Here is what I did.

1. Used JL commander to wipe the BB. It gave me a 507 message on the screen when it was done in about 15 seconds.
2. I put policy.bin in my blackberry directory.
3. I edited the registry to add the Path to the policy.bin.
4. I installed 41011dt-English.exe
5. I installed 7200E_PBr4.0.2_rel93_PL1.6.1.53_A4.0.2.56_Cingular .exe because I live in the USA and its the only one with 7280 listed.
6. I installed BlackBerry_Handheld_Software_v2.6a.exe since it was for my model BB.
7. I ran the Desktop Manager and pluged in my BB
8. I ran the Application icon and it proceeded to install the OS. (funny thing is that it sid it was doing an Upgrade and not an Install)

10 minutes go by and the hourglass is finished and my BB desktop shows up and its asking for a Password still. I put the password in, go to Security and the IT policy is still there.

Any ideas on how to get rid of this or did I by chance miss a step someplace?

ya, make sure you don't have ANOTHER policy.bin in your Blackberry folder in Program Files. Also, make sure your registry key is right. Besides that I am just passing on info from here on the board. I pull my IT policy off all the time this way when the do an Audit, I have it setup to just be which everone is in the folder when I sync it.

It goes into the Blackberry folder and not any of the sub-folders right? I have the registry key set correct and it still doesn't want to accept it.

Any ideas on how to fix this via a remote removal without having to ship the device off someplace?
