Default BB 7780 - OS V4.1? - Help

Please Login to Remove!

Hello Everyone,

I read a lot of threads about the BB 7290 and BB 8700 with OS V4.1.

Since I have the 7780 BB and is not as popular, I was unable to find any threads about the OS versions for the 7780.

Would someone be able to tell me if anyone has seen V4.1 OS for the 7780? Or if someone maybe knows if I can use the version 4.1 from a 7290 on a 7780?

I'm currently with Rogers and I know the latest version is 4.0.0.272 for this network.

The reason I'm looking for version OS V4.1 is because of some enhancements that have been made to the "notifications" options. I have a friend that has the 8700 model and he can have his pager ring different tones for different e-mails that he gets. Right now with my 7780 I am limited to 1 notification for all e-mails and I wish to be able to differentiante between e-mails with different vibrations/ring tones. Of course this might not be possible and I would just have to forget about it, but I tought it might be worth it if I asked around first.

Any help is much appreciated,
Adrian

they won't be releasing OS 4.1 for 16MB devices - only 32MB and above (7100/7290 generation and newer). unfortunately, they 7780 is, or soon will be, considered end-of-life.

Would you happen to have a link to an article or press release stating that? That might give me some justification for hitting the boss up for a new BB to replace my 7780.

Not possible. Version 4.0.X.X and revisions (i.e. 4.0.2.X) are the final versions to the old 7780 and all 16 megabyte BlackBerries.

As an additional incentive, the 8700 screen is sharper and brighter, even though it's slightly smaller. According to BlackBerry CPU benchmarks, it runs software about 6 times faster than the 7780, and it has higher speed data too.

Version 4.1 and later require 32 megabyte devices (or better)
