I always die on that "big U" level.. my high score is 9510.. one day i will crack the elusive 10,000 point barrier

my only advice for the "big up"
is to built up lives.....and once it drops once die on purpose!!
it will by you more time before it drops again......

i'm clossing on the 20,000 mark!! woo hoo!!

Thanks Mike. How often have you managed to pass the "Big U" level? Do you make it past all the time? How many lives to you usually have when you get there? And how long before it drops again after dying on purpose? Is it worth dying AGAIN on purpose after it drops a second time? As you can tell, the "Big U" has actually broken the spell and broken my addiction for the game. Since I can't make it past that level, I can no longer play.

PLEASE help me get my addiction back!

yes it is worth it....
after the first time....i think it takes (12) paddle hit..
the next time it will be (8) paddle hits....
the thrid time will be (6)......it stays there!!! :D :D :D
remember back in the old days where the game would get played unless (we) got a guns on the frist level...
thats how I play now.........but I look for (lives)

I've had 22 lives when i got to "the big U"
left the level with 12 I think!!

I hate the CATCH and FLIP, don't care for WRAP either.

What's with the SLOW drop? I don't notice a difference when I get it. Also, is it my imagination or does the ball speed up ever so slightly when you hold the SPACE key?

How can I get it to drop LIFE all the time?

I'm currently at 8485 on version 4.0.

The worst is when you loan your BlackBerry to someone so they can play and they get the high score on BrickBreaker. Nothing so damaging to the dignity as someone else's high score on your own device! I'm proud of my 8000 mark, but hope to break the 10k barrier soon.

My high score is 6890, and I'm feverishly trying to reach the 7000 mark. I heard a rumor that 7500 is possible on the 3.7 version. My office has a pool for the first person to reach 7500.

Man, I thought I was doing well with ~4800. You guys are putting me to shame!

An important update from the offices in Arlington, The race to reach 7500 can only be compared to the homerun race of 1998. After reaching 6955, a colleague was happy to announce his score only to have it shattered 15 minutes later with a score of 7180. I have now realized the potential of brickbreaker, 8000 is possible.

I think 8000 is the limit for the BrickBreaker in OS version 3.7

This does not apply to the newer version of BrickBreaker in OS version 4.0 though.

The quest for 8000 is costing me my insanity. Should this game be taking up so much of my time. I look forward to standing in lines and waiting on hold at my desk so that I can, without guilt, play the freaking game. Having said all of that, I should have a higher score, but I'm stuck at 7480. Has anyone attempted writing a walkthrough strategy guide for each level on BB 3.7?

The key to the getting past the "Big U" level on the first shot is to get the "catch" on the first pass when the level's only module drops.
The only other helpful modules are the "long" & the "gun" (to shoot out the bottom 3 permanent squares). If anything else drops, you're best bet is to build up lives & die on purpose, or hope you're very skilled at moving the paddle with the ball bouncing a millimeter away!

My high score is 14885 on OS 4.0

I just posted 8420 on 4.0. I cannot figure out the physics of this game though. What makes the ball take odd bounces off the walls and sled. And what does SLOW do? Nothing?!

I would have to say that this game is the most addicting game that I have ever played on any phone that I have bought. What is really awesome is that this game came preloaded. Usually, most pre-loaded games suck. However on version 4.0 my highst score is 6195. Anyways, I'll keep on trying.

Is the Big U level, level 6 on 3.7? if so I have process for easily completing the level. at the start of the level immediately scroll flush left and then back three spaces. Launch the ball and the ball should navigate the left column and into the U. The ball will immediately come back out, DO NOT move the paddle. The ball will again reenter the U and begin busting bricks until the pill is unlock. If you get a long pill then this method won't work. For best results of reaching 8000, you MUST get a gun. As the pill is falling, moving only TWO spaces to the right and stay there. The ball will fall again and much faster. DO NOT move the paddle until the ball hits it, then move two spaces back to the left. You are done.

You want to try and get get a LIFE on level 1 (usually the brick on the right hand side ). If you start off gettin at least 1 LIFE on level 1 you can bet that the game will produce many bricks that will give you LIVES as you go from level to level.This seems to be a tendency. Dont wait too long to attack the bottom rows.The longer you wait they will start to drop down and make it increasingly difficult to eliminate them .It will also cause you major ricochet problems with the ball.When ICONS are dropping try and angle the ball above the top level to bounce around and give yourself some time to grab the ICONS. Dont grab at all and any when you have the GUN , the GUN gives you 50 points when hitting certain bricks,100 pts on others and with 3 shots it makes no sense to grab another ICON(unless its a LIFE,then grab) and lose valuable points. More tips as I play and can recall them...This is my first day on the FORUM as a member ...Picked up some helpful tips while viewing in the past...Thanks to all the helpful hints...and bright people on the board...Cool to be here...

Hey guys. Wow! I knew there had to be a forum somewhere. I, too, am an addict I'm not familiar with the older version bb but I love the new one. My high score, ....drum rolls please, 25,090. I was in shock when I finished all levels, my hands were sweaty and everything. It then takes you back to level one and starts over again, ...except with a catch, and what a catch - the ball starts to go super fast pretty early in each level. I was lucky enough to have had enough lives, and made it all the way to the big U.

All my efforts to repeat it since have not been successful :( My score would've been much higher had I known then what I know now that the Gun and the capsules give you lots of points. I'm now getting the max possible in each level and I do reach 12000 or more on a daily basis but I just can't finish all levels anymore, sniff sniff. I'll go through all the hints on this forum and keep trying, ...that is, until my wife 'accidentally' smashes my blackberry one of these days

Best I've managed on 3.7 is 7,355, after many hours of playing time. Only beat 7,000 about five times. So 7,920 is pretty impressive. Was that on 3.7? Great job!

I got a hi-score of 7580....still not sure exactly how I got it. I think it had to do with getting 3 guns toward the end and was able to shoot the metal bricks. Have been trying to meet or beat it for abotu 3 months without any luck. Grrrrrrrr.

In the original blackberry brickbreaker, the theoretical maximum score is just over 10,000. That assumes:

- every drop is a gun
- every gun is used optimally, meaning shooting fixed bricks when available and only blue bricks otherwise

My high score, before switching to the newer version, is 7860. This is only available with over 40% of the drops being guns, so I think it may be close to acheiveable high.

Version 4.0 is much harder. Do not like Wrap. And the ball is "jumping" at times.

I'd say you are the world champ. I calculated the theoretical optimal score in the original brickbreaker, which would be if every "drop" was a gun, every drop is caught, and every gun was used optimally (fixed bricks when available, blue bricks when not). As you lower the percentage of drops that are guns, the lower the optimal score goes. Getting 7,920 required that over 50% of the drops were guns -- I estimate that this happens less than .005% of the time! I have a high of 7,860 which required 48% guns. In that game, I conciously did not catch one drop (to save my three gun shots) which cost me 50 points, accidentally destroyed one brick with a laser thinking I hadn't hit it yet, costing me 5 points, and missed one gun shot altogether costing another 50 points. Thus that game could have had a score of 7,965. Based on your info, you missed 60 points so could have been at 7,980. Games like these are few and far between!

Incendentally, there is a maxium possible for each screen of course. Screen one is 900 points.

So, I wouldn't call your second high score "pitiful" -- it may if fact be as good as it could have been played. That's the problem with this fun game -- your score is largely dependent on the randomness of the drops. A weak player who gets all guns can score higher than an excellent player who gets none.

But, I'd say 7,930 is a score that will only get beaten if many moons and planets align. You'd have to conciously start over any time you weren't on pace through each screen, hoping that the next game will give you the guns needed!

Well, after hours and hours and hours and thumb blistered, my current high score is 9650 on v4.0.. I don't think i'll ever get past the Big U... the only tip i can give is keep restarting on level one until you get a life...

it helps when you get a "catch pill" on that screen

I got this about three days ago. Have broken the 7k barrier about 5 times, but this was the best. Can I upgrade to 4.0?

Heh heh. I pass 20,000 almost on a regular basis now. This thread is high scores for 3.7 version, there is another thread for the 4.0 version (search for "brickbreaker"). That's where I posted my latest and (almost) greatest high score of, drums please, 31,245. Believe it or not, someone else has an even higher score.

I just got 11,570 last night. I used 3.7 as well as 4.0 on the 7290. It is quite easy to get over 8000, but I thought that it would be impossible to get over 9250 which was my previous high score.

Far more luck and persistence than skill I am afraid. Having achieved this score, I have promised not to even look at it any more!

Level 20 ---- 11230, I got my lives up to 9 by the 6th level.....

I didn't know about any of these tricks aforementioned, I wish I did... I'm going to try some of them... I don't care about the little points, I feel like the trick is to just stay alive as long as possible and your score will naturally just go up the more levels you get through... the U pisses me off... but if you get the Gun it's dope... I wish there was a trick to make sure you get the Gun...
I always end up with Long or Slow... which obviously doesn't help much...

I beat the U a few times and each time I get way further than before because all the next levels are really easy... stupid U
