Default Re-post - BlackBerry monitoring

Please Login to Remove!

Hi everyone,

apologies for re-posting but would like some advice ASAP...

I am currently deploying a couple of BES 3.6 servers and although I got the mib from RIM I cannot find any documentation on the recommended way of monitoring the servers or services...

Our infrastructure includes SNMPc, GFI and Compaq Insight Manager so there are tools there if the BES decides to speak to them.

Any ideas will be welcome.

Not sure on individual log parsing, but as for services (for 3.6), the following need to be monitored:

BlackBerry Attachment Service
BlackBerry Controller
BlackBerry Database Consistency Service
BlackBerry Mobile Data Server SERVERNAME
BlackBerry Server SERVERNAME

Here are the 4.0 services to be monitored:

BlackBerry Alert
BlackBerry Attachment Service
BlackBerry Controller
BlackBerry Dispatcher
BlackBerry Mobile Data Service
BlackBerry Policy Service
BlackBerry Router
BlackBerry Synchronization Service

Our SNMP services monitor windows event logs, so it will page when there's a major error in it. However, the BES logs contain so much more information.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and is widely regarded as a bad move.

Depending on your budget, there are some 3rd party products out there than can not only monitor your BES but other aspects as well. We are currently evaluating NetIQ, NeedText, and BoxTone
