Default History of Model Releases

Please Login to Remove!

I've been asked to map an upgrade plan for the various handhelds that are currently deployed. This is easy enough to say that all 5810/6710/6280 etc will be upgraded to our latest supported device. However, I'm trying to find out when these older devices were made available so that I can quantify that model "abc" is x years old.

Does anybody know of a document (or source) referencing the history of model releases?

You may have to look around the user guides or other files but it may have release dates.

Default Model Release Dates

Here's what I've been able to put together so far based on dates of User Guides (UG) and press releases (PR). Note, the PR date listed is focused on the model's release within Canada.

5810 2001-11-06 (UG)
6710 2002-10-24 (UG)
6750 2003-01-29 (UG)
6280 2003-09-03 (UG)
7280 2003-12-11 (PR)
7750 2004-03-22 (PR)
7780 2004-06-01 (PR)
7290 2004-10-22 (PR)
7250 2005-02-16 (PR)
8700r 2005-11-09 (PR)

As mentioned above, this info has been pieced together for various sources. This is by no means a definitive listing of release dates, but can serve as a reference.

I guess the 850s, 950s, 857s and 957s are too old to be mentioned.
There's also the 5820, 6210, 6230, 7210 and 7230 to consider.

Most of this info (years but not specific dates) can be found in RIM's 20 year history at: http://www.rim.com/news/kit/media/pdfs/rim_history.pdf

Releases by year

1998: 950
1999: 850
2000: 957 (and presumably the 857)
2002: 5810, 6710, 6720, 6510, 6750
2003: 6210, 6220, 6230, 7210, 7230, 7280, 7730
2004: 7100, 7510, 7750

(end of PDF -- April 2004)

2004: 7290, 7780
2005: 7250, 8700

These dates correspond to "soft launches..." e.g. widespread handheld availability through many carriers often comes weeks or months later.

My initial question and research on this was quite selfish; I was only interested in the models that we currently have active. I am glad to see others are participating and adding their entries to give us all a better overall look at the release cycle for the Blackberry's.
