Default Rogers TCP/IP Problems - Includes Verichat - Post Here

For Rogers TCP/IP, try this...
  1. First, make sure you are using BlackBerry OS 4.0 (or at least Version 3.8 if you already have a 7100/7290). You can find out the version by going to Options -> About ... and if it is not Verison 4.0, you should install one from another carrier such as Vodafone 4.0.0.188 (make sure to delete the VENDOR.XML file).
  2. Next, configure the Options -> TCP -> APN to "internet.com" as suggested by Configuring Internet on BlackBerry
  3. Go to your BlackBerry's Options -> Host Routing Tables, click Thumbwheel, and select "Register Now".
  4. Go to your BlackBerry Web Client website http://www.rogers.com/bwc/ and then go to your Profile, and click the "Send Service Book" button.
  5. Reboot your BlackBerry by removing and reinserting the battery.
(Or by doing ++ twice with a 10 second delay in between.)
  6. If it still does not work, call Rogers Canada and get the "internet.com" Access Point Name (APN) added to your BlackBerry account on their end. Then repeat the above 4 steps.

Eh? If you have upgraded your device to Blackberry OS 4.0 on the Rogers network and tcp/ip applications are NOT working:

* You recieve errors related 'could not open tunnel' 'tunnel failed'

The problem might be an incorrect/bad profile on the Rogers network. Have a Rogers tech re-set your profile on the network, what this means:

* You are told to turn your wireless off
* Rogers people boot your PIN and re-add it to the network

Anyway this was a problem I had, Rogers enabled TCP/IP a long time ago and it works.. but for a couple months i did not have it working and this was the solution.

No APN required.

There was a surge of posts of "rogers TCP/IP" is not working (some on HoFo), so I posted this message. Thanks for your contribution -- It will give people more things to try in order to get Rogers TCP/IP to work!

I still don't understand *why* you want an APN on rogers.

I've never used one and never needed one.. so why ???

(i use os 4.0 on a 7280)

The APN is needed to make software such as VeriChat, WebMessenger, Reqwireless, midpssh, MobileSSH, etc, working on Rogers. The APN is not necessary if you are on a BES with MDS.

Without an APN and without a BES, it doesn't work. Unless Rogers has recently changed the configuration or you are using a new BlackBerryOS that autoconfigures the APN.

Also, this is an old post. The latest Configuring Internet is located in my BlackBerry FAQ link below. I have edited the post to point to the most recent version.

No.. mark.. i've NEVER required the APN to make ALL internet enabled apps work. They just work.

I use a 7280, NO BES, OS 4.0 I have NEVER used BES and Internet apps ALWAYS work and always have worked without APN.

Yes, i'm with Rogers.

I just checked mine (7100R) as well and my APN is empty, use Verichat and it works.
