Default How to Mass Delete Messages?

Please Login to Remove!

Did a search, but couldn't find much on this. I get a ton of text and email everyday, and if I'm not diligent about deleting, I'll end up with a bunch of read messages in my inbox. Is there anyway to mass delete text messages? The emails I care more about, because the ones from my company OWA, I delete from handheld only, while the others I delete from handheld and server. But I would like to be able to just select all the sms and delete them.

So far, this is the only really lacking thing I've found with my BB... so if you can point out how to do it, if possible, I'd be stoked!

The only way to "mass delete" (that I am aware of) is by date - not type of message. You may know this - go into messages, highlight the date and click the wheel for menu and choose "Delete Prior". This deletes all messages prior to the date selected.

highlight the date in the inbox. The date separator I mean. Click the wheel and scroll to "delete prior"

But olly wants to selectively mass delete only the text (sms) messages - not the emails.

Don't think that's possible...

Go into messages press the wheel and choose Search.

Change Type to SMS.

If you want to only delete incoming, not outgoing, text messages change the Show field to Received.

Press the wheel and choose save. You will be prompted to name the search, call it something like Text Messages or SMS or whatever. In the Shortcut Key put the letter t. Press the wheel and then choose save.

It take a little to set up but then you are set. Now, when you want to delete just the text messages you can go into Messages press ALT + t and it will show only text messages. At this point do a delete prior, highlight a date press the wheel and choose delete prior, and bingo no more text messages cluttering it all up.

Wirelessly posted (7100t: BlackBerry7100/4.0.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)

From messages, press ALT+S to open the incoming SMS folder. Now highlight the date line, press scroll wheel and select Delete Prior.

Go to Messages, select the date (such as today) and click on Delete Prior.

All good advice. Other option, depending on your model, is to switch to the Zen theme.

On the 8700 w/ Zen, it divides E-mail and SMS into two separate categories.

on the 7290 you can hold the CAP button and roll the track wheel. This will let you select as many messages as you want, but not deleting everything prior.

I have used a BIS through Cingular and now a hosted BES through MailStreet and although using "delete prior" will remove the messages from your Blackberry it may, or more likely, will not remove them from the hosted BES or the BIS. Both Cingular and MailStreet have confirmed this issue exists.

Correct, using Delete Prior does not synch the deletions back to your mail client. This is by design.

Thanks all for the good advice, I'm trying various things, but I think I'm just going to use the 'delete prior' and clean out my BIS every now and then... that seems to be the easiest way to do it.

Well, on my 7520

-> in my message icon, i can do "ALT-S" and only SMS Message will appear
-> then use the "Delete Prior" from there

Also -> ALT-i for incoming message, ALT-O for Outgoing, ALT-P for phones logs .. i think there's one for DC, but i don't remember it..
