10 bucks more and you never have to worry about going over the limit. I say go unlimited.

Wirelessly posted (7290/7100t: BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

Its 5mb total-im not sure if their method of keeping track is accurate tho, because my wife (she has nex-BB7520) receives tons of email with attachments,(much of it spam pulled from her work email). She hasn't gone over the 5mb yet. She does a fair amount of surfing, mostly google lookups etc. They will tell you the 5mb includes attachments sent to your address whether or not you choose to open/dwnld it or not. At first I was leary about this, what if on the first day of the billing cycle cousin ethel sent 5 1mg pix of the kids to one of your 10 avail emails? There goes the whole months allowance!
The nextel csr verified this would be true, I haven't rec'd any overage yet. Your milage may vary... As well as your overage-

To my knowledge Nextel doesn't offer a $10.00 data plan. I think their unlimited is $49.99/month. I've never had issues with that and I get tons of data pushed to my BB. I use it for work, side business, and personal.

When email is pushed to a BB it arrives in 2KB 'chunks'. When you scroll thru the message and see the MORE, it will go get another 2KB chunk. Opening attachments, web surfing, and IM is where you'll see the most usage. I get well over 100 emails a day (and send almost as many). I also surf the web (mostly Nextel's WAP browser) and use BBMessenger a LOT. Last month I had 17M in data usage. Not sure if that answers your question, but it might give you some perspective.

I was using about 4MB a month with my e-mail (approx 75 a day) and occasional web surfing, but as soon as I starting using bb messanger my usage began to average 10-15MB a month.

If you have a voice plan the Unlimited is $45. Data only Unlimited is $50. Im not sure if its available in your area, but new subcribers who sign a two-year agreement can get the Unlimited (with a voice plan) for $39.00. In Texas it shows it on the web for $35.00.

Unlimited is the way to go. That way there's no worries about going over. Also, don't believe that $10 Nextel data plan will be allowed on bb by Nextel. They will force a bb plan on you.

Dont even mess with anything other than unlimited. If you get one email a month with a large attachment and open it, your in trouble. I would check with your Nextel rep on the data plans. In Idaho there is only a 3MB plan and an umlimited plan. With a voice plan on the BB they are 34.99 and 44.99 a month.
