Exclamation Send contact over SMS

Please Login to Remove!

Overseas, in Europe and Asia it is very common for people to SMS a complete contact card to another phone. Can the same be done with a Blackberry device 7100 or 8700 series?

Usually from Nokia phones and on receiving a contact card, I see the following:
BEGIN: VCARD
VERSION:2.1
N: NAme etc
TEL, CEL: number etc.

Is there a way to get this information to the address book directly rather than the tedious copy and paste methods?

Thanks!

I'm looking at my 8700 and it doesn't have that option to do so.

I know what you are talking about. It would have been so much easier to transfer or share your phonebook.

My unlocked SLVR L7 has that option.. select your phone contact and click share phonebook by sms... and you don't even have to do anything else.

I'm surprised BB's doesn't have a way to send your electronic business card. This is a device for professionals.

Hmmm, that is a good point. It is suprising that it does not do that. Are there any 3rd party programs that allow you to do this?

I do not see the option of attaching a contact when sending an MMS message... I am using a 7100t.

For MMS...

First compose a new MMS from your Messages app. After you pick who you are sending it to, put a subject in, then click the scroll wheel and it gives you several attachment options. Choose "Attach Address".

Boom...there ya go.

When you receive an MMS like that, scroll to the bottom where the VCF attachment is and upon a click, you have ability to Add it to your addresses automatically.

P.S. I just checked it from my computer and the vcard file came through Outlook perfectly and looks great with all the information!

If you can send the contact information through email, why not just send it to the persons phone number at whichever carrier they are using. This will cause the email to go through the SMS gateway. Don't really know if this will cause a vcard to attach though. Use the domains below I am pretty sure they are still current.

Alltel @message.alltel.com
AT&T @mmode.com (old may not work?)
Cingular @mobile.mycingular.com (old may not work?)
Cingular @cingularme.com
Nextel @messaging.nextel.com
Sprint @messaging.sprintpcs.com
SunCom @tms.suncom.com
T-mobile @tmomail.net
VoiceStream @voicestream.net (old may not work?)
Verizon @vtext.com
Virgin Mobile @vmobl.com

Sending MMS: I do not have that option when sending an MMS from the 7100t, 4.0 blackberry software. Perhaps this is a 4.1 deal?
