Default BB Continuity on West Wing

Please Login to Remove!

Hi All!

Just an interesting piece of trivia.

On The West Wing last night Josh, who is a Treo user, starting holding and typing on a Nextel BB about halfway thorugh the episode. At one point he had the BB in one hand while talking on the Treo up to his head in the other hand.

A few scenes later he has an 8700g in the OEM holster on his right hip walking around his office. A few scenes after that, he is frantically looking for his BB and is then advised by an assistant that he gave it to the assistant for updating.

Sam, returing character, brings the BB back into Josh's office and after some discussion places the BB on the desk. It is definitely an 8700g.

The last scene of the episode, while Josh and Donna are flying away on vacation, shows the Nextel BB vibrating on Josh's desk before it falls to the floor.

Not only did he switch BB's, but also carriers in mid episode.

OK...So I noticed the stupid details.

Only a true Crackberry addict would catch all that - nice catch

AND, since I missed the episode, it sounds like Sam took the job offer? Did Santos find a new VP yet?

Thanks!

Oh, Sorry for giving it away. Yes, Sam does take the offer. No VP yet. Next episode.

It was a good one, so catch it if you can.

I noticed that too - they often mess up phone model continuity but never so much and so obviously in one episode! I assume Blackberry had a product placement deal with NBC (especialy as Josh refered to it by name) and gave the show a box of dummy devices. They then didn't bother to distinguish between them when shooting. Oh well, great show nevertheless.

I noticed this as well but chalked it up to him having a few devices. Lots of mention this season of BB but I don't think product placement. The show is heavily staffed with ex-government people as consultants and they give them things like the Heavy use of BBs in DC to use to make the show realistic.

I have seen Allen Iverson of the Phila. 76ers using an 8700 also.

It may be for realism, but you can bet that for them to show it that obviously, and call it by name, RIM had to fork over some dough.

Nice catch. And i agree, only a true crackberry addict would be able to catch those specific model exchanges through brief TV scenes

I posted on this very thing as soon as I saw it. And they don't appear to be dummy devices. When Josh uses a Treo, you can see the keyboard backlight turn off at the end of a call.

I saw that thread. Josh has been using a Treo for quite a few episodes. It was this last episode that we see him frenetically multitasking on a BB7520. He carried it around and in an outdoor scene he is talking to Sam on the Treo up to his ear with his left hand and is carrying the BB7520 and some folders in his right hand. There was no apparent use of a holster.

We see the 8700 when he is back in his office. It was first in an OEM holster on his right hip and then we see a close-up when Sam returns the unit to him after a discussion.

He was never shown using either BB as a phone.

I agree that some money was probably spent to have a few very close-up shots of the two BB's.

that and they probably didn't want an 8700 falling off the desk in case it broke

Yeah I saw that too. When he was yelling at his assistant about his blackberry, my dad asked me if I liked mine. (i watch the show with my dad every week.) I said yes. He then asked if they are really as useful as Josh made them out to be and I said yes. Then he indicated that fathers day was fast approaching. I think I will get him one, but of course I will have to train him on it.

That was perhaps the best west wing in a while.
