Today I got a call from rogers stating that I'm abusing the 6 months unlimited data by using 20-30mb. My avg is about 25mb. I really laid into this rep good. Was about to tell them to stick the bb up their @.

Just needed this rant.

Does it state anywhere as to what constitutes "abuse" on any documentation they provided you at the time you established service?

Did they indicate if they'd be charging you overage, or what the consequences of continuing your level of usage would be?

I really feel for you guys with Rogers - they are so bad. "Abuse" on 6 months of "unlimited" data - this does not even make grammatical sense - absurd!

just curious as I don't know where we can go with this... We have over 1000 units (bberries and phones) with rogers through our corporation. Who else is on Rogers through their company (corporate size - over 100 bberries)?

We should really be using our clout as large companies to get rogers to change their data plan.

I'm in IT and in contact with Rogers at my company. I'd DEFINATELY pull my part of the bargain if other people at other large companies did the same thing. I'm sure if enough big companies threatened to dump service in favour of... say bell (closer to true unlimited) than maybe Rogers would be forced to change their outdated policies.

The people united... you get the picture.

^^ It won't work, trust me. I used to manage a wireless data project at Rogers Cable with well over 1000 devices on Mobitex and GPRS/EDGE.

Do you think Rogers Wireless--sister company to Cable--would offer any pricing and/or data package incentives or exceptions to us? Absolutely not. I went as high as Nadir (who, at the time, was CEO for Wireless), and still no luck.

Customers on the street could get better deals than us...

They know you own the hardware. And the cost of migrating to another carrier is therefore too prohibitive. So they've got you by the short n' curlies....LOL

When I had my 3 months of unlimited data given to me for renewal of my contract with them I abused it and never got a call or charged extra. Since my 3 month unlimited data promotion expired I just get high bills due to my overages :( I hate the 25Mb cap.

20-30MB is considered abuse?!?!?!?!?! The cost of that bandwidth is so minute it is rediculous.

Terrible, terrible, company.

First of all, there is no 6 months of unlimited data. It's three months and then they extend it by three months if you ask. If they're so unhappy with you, I doubt that they would have....

Now as for your receiving a call that you were abusing your temporary unlimited plan when you were within 5 MB above or below the normally allowed limit, I'm not going to turn this into an extended flame but sorry I just plain do not believe you.

There are lots of good reasons to be unhappy with Rogers. We don't need to fabricate additional ones.

FYI I used 47MB in my first month. Not only did I not receive a phone call of complaint, they extended me for an additional three months when I complained.

In my defence, I rarely make negative posts but this thread is absurd.

No overage charges but possible account suspend. I just don't understand offering a unlimited trial then whining when someone is using it

I dunno man, when I signed up the rep told me I had 6 months, which I had him note on the contract I signed. Maybe he lied to me, but I'm not lieing about the phone call. We've all got better things to do then make up fake stories. Maybe I should confirm the 6months.

Is rogers the equivalent of verizon wireless, being nickel and dimed to death(that's my experience, I got charged out of the ass during hurricane katrina for "roaming", I'm sure there's good verizon experiences in here)

This is ridiculous.

You might want to post on HowardForums Rogers Discussion too

What are people using to reach ~50mb or more each month? Is it a lot of attachments or IM programs and SSH etc?

For me it's using the HTML browser and IM client quite often that takes me over the 25Mb. For anyone who doesn't know what Rogers BlackBerry data rates are you can check out www.rogers.com/blackberry

Both our Rogers reps have told us that Rogers won't be changing their data rates anytime soon. They make too much money off of it. It's funny coz the dealer who sold me my Bluetooth headset told me pretty much the same thing when I asked him if he had heard anything about data rates.
