Default Innovative use of "alerts" - gimme ideas!

Please Login to Remove!

Okay guys, I know I'm an avid BBer, but I also know that many of you take it to a whole other level!

With all the different profile settings, as well as further alerts provided by Notifier or Message Alerts, I know there's a lot more I could be doing with my 8700. I need some ideas.

So let's get some discussion going and learn from you gurus out there - How do YOU leverage all the profile and alert settings to tweak the way your BB let's you know what's up??

Right now, I just have the basic phone and email alerts set differently based on in- or out-of-holster. I haven't yet gone to the level of customizing specific things for the significant other, or work v. personal email, etc..

(One thing that does bug me is I like to be alerted to new emails when in holster, but if I have the phone set to vibrate+tone while in holster, I can never tell the difference between the two until after the first "beep" (which is two short buzzes...)

Speak up!!

Unfortunately, there isn't much you can customize. I have several different profiles added that I customized (Do not disturb, ect). However, The rings and the number of rings and the alert sounds are pretty much standard. Just mixed a few up and added some custom ringtones, but other than that...The Gecko rolls regulation style

I've set up exceptions for certain people and groups and use unique identifing voice ringtones for each + simular announcements for each type of alert. I don't use a 3rd party app for this.

Hope this helps.

There you go! That's an interesting use. I haven't yet explored the use of exceptions - so I'll definitely give that a try, thanks!

Using Message Alerts, I have set up items to alert me based on time and who the sender/caller is.
All mail after 8:00pm silent LED notification only;

except for several agencies that will ring with different tones 24x7.

Phone same rules Certain people can call any time, most can not.

SMS same rules.

I am more concerned about times than anything thing else. We are a 24v7 operation, and people would sent e-mail at all hours. Got tired of getting woken up up. This arrangement gives me quiet time.

Another great idea. Using time-based alerts didn't occur to me. Good one! thanks!

Anyone found anything that causes the Bb to vibrate and play the tone simultaniously, as an option for calls as well as messages. Iv seen Message Alert and Notifier but neither manage this successfully using any of my sdpcm tones or deal with calls.
