Hey mates,

since a couple of weeks some of my user experience the following.

They send out an email from their Lotus Notes client and then file this sent email to a folder. Usually the sent email should sync with the Blackberry and though should be visible in the same folder on the Blackberry.

Well, it does not.

From what I've tried it has nothing to do with less memory or the "sent folder" redirection set on the handheld.

BES 4.0, 7290 and 6710 handhelds.

Any thoughs on this?

Where is this folder located that they file the message to? Is it off of the inbox or the sent folder?

Is that folder set for redirection to the handheld?

Not sure what you mean with "off of the inbox" Zro.
It's a folder they created to file messages to. These folders are also on the Blackberry. If they file an incoming email to this folder using Lotus Notes this incoming email is synced to the Blackberry folder.
If they SEND and email from LN and save this one by either using the "send and file" function or just drag and drop it from their sent folder into one of these self created folders, this email does not sync to the Blackberry and does not show up in the respective folder (although it did before).

The folder is not set for redirection and never was. Actually only the inbox is set for redirection.

On the Device, if you choose View Folders and go to the Sent Items folder it will still only show messages composed on the device.

In the Desktop Manager, under Redirector Settings | Advanced
I think the Folder Redirections field would have to be set to Selected Folders and have the Inbox & the folder that they are filing the Sent message in selected, otherwise the blackberry thread process monitoring their Inbox will never know anything about the sent message.

Probably easiest work around is for the user to bcc themselves on the sent message if they wish to view it on the device.

If the sent items is not selected for redirection, then it doesn't matter if they are filing the message or not, that sent message will not show up on the handheld unless it was composed on the handheld.

If they are using "send and file" then the folder that they are filing it into has to be set for redirection. The BES would see it as a new message in that folder and send it to the BlackBerry.

As for the "off the inbox" I meant as a sub folder of the inbox. Thinking in DOS terms, the path to the folder would be "Mailbox\inbox\folder".

Basically think of it this way. The BES will scan for new messages in folders that have been set for redirection. If the inbox is the only folder set for redirection, then that's the only folder the BES will look in for new mail. If an agent moves a message to another folder before the BES scans for new mail, that message will not get sent to the handheld unless that folder is set for redirection.

I understand what you're saying but how do you explain that incoming emails which are filed to a folder (on the LN client) get synced with the blackberry?

Think of it this way... The BES only looks at your Inbox and Sent folder for new messages, it doesnt care about anything else. Once a new message has been identified, the BES server keeps track of that message where ever it it moved. The way I understand it, you have disabled the redirection of the Sent folder. Basically, the BES server is no longer looking at the Sent folder for new messages. Since it doesnt know the email exists, it cant track its movements. New incoming messages are in the Inbox which is monitored. All those message movements are tracked from that point forward.

Long story short... If you want sent messages to be moved into folders, on the BlackBerry, you need to turn folder redirection for the Sent folder back on.
