Angry Cingular Service in Chicago. Help!

Please Login to Remove!

So, here is my situtation.

As of last week I was on the former AT&T using a 7290. I started dropping calls like crazy (couldn't stay on the line for more than 2 minutes) and 1/2 the time when placing calls I would get a "Do Doo Dooo" message and the BB would show "Call Failed".

I travel frequently and this was happening in Boston, New York and San Francisco.

I've wanted the 8700c for some time. So, I finally made the jump, switched to Cingular, and purchased the 8700. I was also told by Cingular that being on the "true" Cingular network would provide me with much better service (i took this with a grain of salt).

Now, 3 days later (8700 in hand) I'm having similar problems. I am completely frusturated with Cingular. Now they are telling me that the network in Chicago is going through "integration" between AT&T and Cingular and that towers are in "transition".

Sometimes, when I look at my BB, i see it goes to SOS (in an area where I had perfect reception) and then flips back to Cingular with full bars. Any ideas?

Should I switch to T-Mob? Will I be any better off? Can these guys even compete with the size of Cingular? I'm guessing in major cities coverage should be fine.

I haven't upgraded to Telstra code. Could this have improved radio software? Should I upgrade?

Help! Any thoughts or suggestions would be great.

I was on ATTWS-->Cingular from 1995 until last month. I switched over to TMobile. I am in NYC and haven't had any problems at all here, or in SFO, LA, Miami, Philly, or up in Quebec.

I can tell you the Tmobile service in the major cities is great with no problems, in my experience, don't know about chicago.

I never had the problems that you are experiencing on Cingular though either.

I meant 98-until last month, not that that matters.

I Use a 7290 in Chicago and never had issues on Cingular.
I did have a problem with the original 7290 with a low signal output. cingular replaced it. the problem cleared. One other issue was a SIM card with 32 Meg of memory . This was the cause of dropped calls. On this forum i found it would be fixed with a 64 meg card. I changed to the 64m card and all dropped calls and failed calls stopped. dont have any idea why but it works
