Since this came out much sooner then expected, I wonder if 4.0 will come out sooner then expected as well

You could get pictures from other sources than just attachments e.g. from the web browser.

Do you not think that it shipping with 3.8 so close to 4.0 is an indicator that they knew 4.0 wasn't going to be as easy to complete as these were?

Embedded RIM® wireless modem is on all BlackBerry models. It is basically the wireless radio that communicates with the wireless network. You people read too much into things.

Here is what I found out today.
The OS is 3.8.
It will work on existing BES and with 4.0. (not sure if all of 4.0 features will work)
I heard list was $249 with a $50 instant rebate.
T-Mobile is supposed to have stock on September 30.
It is quad band
32mb of memory
Does have a picture viewer so I'm assuming you can open image attachments.
4 hour talk time
3 days standby realistically.
It's called work and I am very busy. Like someone said, it is all in the User Guide.

I'm confused on the BES thing. The FAQ says I need a BES account. If I purchase the 7100t through TMO, and get the required plan, at $59.99, will that already come with everything I need to start using right out of the box? Or do I have to go also buy a BES plan from some third party.

BES is optional

T-Mobile will provide you with a web client account and you will be able to start using it right away.

You only need a BES account to use some advanced features such as the wireless calendar.

It does not appear so.

This is from our rep:

Quote:
They will be available Oct 1! And the $199 is after rebate. I used one about a week ago and it rocks, but very different from typing on any other RIM device.
They are regular price $299 w/ a $100 rebate. Our rep seems to be very optimistic about the new handsets.

it will be out Q1 2005.

also, for someone who stated in another thread that the 6710 model handset would be having 4.0 support, it will not.

You sound very definite, shame that a lot of carriers and rim seem to think otherwise.

I was told its only 8mb 5800s and 6700s that won't be getting 4.0 support and have seen it running on a 16mb 6700.

My evidence from my sources here proves otherwise...

BlackberryOS4 - 6700 Series
6700E_PBr4[1].0.0_rel73_PL1.4.0.77_A4.0.0.63.exe
16.2MB
There IS a BlackberryOS 4 for 6700 series. Maybe it will never be publicly released, but it DOES exist at least in this version.

I have seen a 12 megabyte file that was named as a 58XX series version of BlackberryOS 4.0.0.63.

you are correct. i was not aware that a 16MB 6710 existed. this was specifically for the 8mb 6710 (my current model).

Anyone know how much the BB data plan is? I already have a voice phone from SprintPCS and don't feel like porting my #. I just need the BB (7100T) for data services (IM, Email, Surfing)

Thanks

From what I gather, TMobile will be the only ones carrying this for a while and I also gather this will be locked. Hey, I've got a question, why would you rather have a keyboard with two letters per pad versus the almost BB-invented perfect QWERTY keyboard. Somebody tell me what the pluses are? I do agree this is quite a cool looking device, but let's not forget why we learned to love this fruit.
