Angry Cannot make/receive calls

Please Login to Remove!

Hello folks,
I am new to bb's and not sure how the whole thing with them works. I got a 7100x on Ebay which was locked to O2, and had it unlocked via a remote log server thing for $20. Everything's fine, I loaded O2's OS which I downloaded from their website. It finds a signal and next to the signal bars it says GPRS, and the green light on top flashes periodically, so I believe this means I am connected. It does connect to all 4 networks. But it cannot make/receive calls or texts for some reason. Is it IMEI blacklisted or is it something related to blackberry's fancy security settings? Please help me out here, I've tried flashing OS from other carriers but no difference at all.
Any help you experts out there?

Thank you in advance,
Angelos

*EDIT*: It can send and receive text messages. Can a blocked phone send/receive texts?

When you loaded the OS Os (redundant?), was the phone App checked to be loaded? Sometimes it's not and this happens. Try reinstalling the os and make sure that the chekbox next Phone is checked.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, it was checked and disabled too (greyed-out) so it's installed by default. When trying to call, it looks like the line drops and when calling I can hear 3 beeps and then the line drops. I hope it's not blocked :(

Angelos

Don't know anything else to say, but if you can get SMS and GPRS I would think it was working. Call your provider is all I can say.

Hope this helps.

I just phoned up my network and also the network to which the bb is branded, and they both said that the handset does not come up in their database as lost or stolen. However, the O2 customer advisor (the bb is O2 branded) suggested to visit one of their stores to make sure there is nothing wrong with it. Now, I'm not an O2 customer and i think the only thing they can do for me is, in case it's reported lost, to keep it and lose the money I paid for it! What do you guys suggest?

When a bb is to be connected for the first time, do you have to activate it or anything? I suspect that the fact it cannot makee/receive calls has something to do with security settings. The is an 8-digit PIN under the Options->Status menu and I suppose this has something to do with phone security. Am I right?

Please help you guys, it's such a nice device and I cannot use it!!!!!!!
Thanks,
Angelos

The PIN identifies the BB to the wireless network and is used to send PIN messages between other BB's.

So PIN has nothing to do with voice calls yes?
I suspect that it could actually be hardware/software problem, as I have now realised that i cannot even make emergency calls! I would think that emergency calls shoudl be straight forward. Am I looking to other problems then?

PIN has nothing to do with voice. Every BB has a PIN, even though some are data only.

You may have a hardware issue.

Well, I think I have narrowed down the problem to software or hardware. In my pda-phone (MDA III) I know that radio (for calls/data) and bluetooth operate from the same module. So I thought that if bluetooth does not work properly then my problem is probably the radio module or software. So I tried to pair the bb with my pc and I could only see the audio gateway service of the phone (instead of the 4 services listed in the bb) and as soon as I tried to call, the call was dropped and the bluetooth connection was lost. As if the radio module was resetting.
Has anyone installed OS4.1 in a 7100? Do you guys have any links to older versions of the OS (3.8 for exampe) to try and see if it's working on an older OS?
Thanks,
Angelos

BT on a BlackBerry can not be used with an audio gateway. It can only be used with a wireless headset, and paired with your PC for PIM data transfer.

We have OS 4.1 running on the 7100t just fine. With BT connectivity to a Motorola BT headset.

But I could hear the beeps when the call failed from my computer speakers! And it was conected,I could actually see packets being exchanged between bb and pc. Any other suggestions?

so, i really know nothing about bb's and i'm pretty new myself...but i saw something in your posts that could totally be your problem. or i could be totally wrong. But you said that you had your bb unlocked, then went to the O2 website to download the bb software. you also said you don't use O2. could that be the problem? i know each wireless company has it's own bb software, so maybe you should visit your service providers website and download thier software? just a thought

All the software is written by RIM. The carriers request modifications and customizations. It is perfectly safe to put another carriers software onto an O2 device.

so if he were to, for example, use O2 software on a t-mobile network, there wouldn't be any problems?

Correct. I am on T-Mobile USA and have used Bharti, Cable and Wireless and CSL Hong Kong OS's without a problem.

Yes I've tried s/w from other providers including my contract provider T-mobile and my t-mobile sim does the same thing. Does anyone have an older version of the OS?

I just phoned up the Lost and Stolen department where you report a lost phone and they checked thei IMEI for me. Guess what? It's in their database! Anyways, the customer advisor told me to call back tomorrow on the customer services number (it's closed right now) and ask for the IMEI to be removed from the database! . Too good to be true? I would think that it's more difficult than that given the fact that someone reported it lost or stolen, so I could as well be the one who found it! Anyways, if you have any similar experiences please post and see what my rights are, I need to convince them tomorrow to unlock it for me!
I'll keep you updated folks, thanks everyone for replying.
