Default Old 6280 devices not able to get new SIM cards from Cingular?

Please Login to Remove!

Heres the deal, we upgraded a bunch of old B&W 6280 units to the 7290's a while back, I was clearing out my drawer and found about 20 6280s, all with old AT&T Blue Sim Cards (with the little AT&T logo and globe on em).

I asked our telecomm peeps who control the accounts and all that if we could re-activate them, she says no because when they cancelled them, the SIMs basically get deactivated/turned off? And she claims we can't get the old SIM cards for these anymore from Cingular and the new Orange ones don't work?

So these devices are useless? A few of them are still in good condition, and I see people using the old 6280's/7280's still, so I assume they still work? Is there any hope of re-using these? Is she a dummy and not knows what she's talking about?

If thats the case, what do I tell her to do to get them working again? Rather then put them out to pasture, if I can re-use them as loaners for when people go on vacation, or to test some new applications, I'd rather do that then order new ones.

you wont be able to activate new service on them as the cingular orange sim cards wont work. your best bet is to get the devices unlocked from someone other than cingular, as former att wireless policy wont unlock the devices. Once they are unlocked you should be able to use cingular orange sim cards in them

you will not be able to get new activation on them with blue<former att wireless> service.

really? So these things are pretty much useless?

Seems like a waste for something we just got a little over a year ago.
