EVDO in Waterloo Ontario Region I am not sure, but i know EVDO is out my question is that, if i am just using my blackberry as a phone no data currently, am i able to upgrade to EVDO or will it have to stay on 1x.. yes this may sounds dumb but, when i went into a bell world the girl was no help and tried to sell me a data plan.. any suggestions would be great Thanks |
Evdo EVDO coverage is restricted to certain areas in major cities like Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Ottawa, Calgary etc. Ironic, but I don't think KW (Rims headquarters,) has coverage yet. |
I'm assuming that you have a Bell or Telus 7250... There are local Bell World stores in KW capable of installing the upgrade. Although EVDO is not yet available in the area. Do a search on this forum for a list of update-capable stores. The closest areas with EVDO (currently) are Hamilton and the GTA. |
do i have to go to the store to get it upgraded or is it just the software upgrade |
Wirelessly posted (7250: BlackBerry7250/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/109) You need to update the software on your device to 4.1. Refer to Mark's FAQ at the top of the forum for details on where to download. Once you have 4.1, on Bell you'll need to visit a Bell store to have the latest PRL installed. Your device won't connect to the EVDO network without the correct PRL. The store also installs a mobility update which enables modem tethering. |
k i have done that i have 4.1 now sorry if these are dumb questions but is EVDO just for the Data part or is it for the phone part too? |
Wirelessly posted (7250: BlackBerry7250/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/109) EVDO enhances data speeds only. However, it does provide advantages to voice calls, as it suspends data sessions faster. Thus preventing more calls from going directly to voicemail. |
Im in waterloo and my 1XEV has been on since this morning. Is it here for real?? :) |
Yep...I'm getting EVDO in Waterloo now as well. |
The EvDO signals have been coming and going within Waterloo for about a week now; there is clearly some pre-deployment testing going on. The other day I benchmarked my tethered connection in Waterloo at 356kbs down and 52kbps up. |
The EvDO rollout across Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, Guelph and St. Catherines is scheduled for completion between December 15th and December 31st of this year. Between now and then we should start seeing the EvDO signals more frequently and in more areas as the testing and rollout moves forward. |
