Default Account admins/heavy roaming users: how to evade roaming charges?

Please Login to Remove!

What have you done to evade network carrier's rediculous roaming charges? I'm in Canada and Bell/Rogers have rediculous roaming rates.

Recently, most EU rates dropped dramatically to $1.70 to canada/US/minute, $.99 in country..

but US roaming is still $1.70 back to canada, $1.00 in country, etc.

Has anyone been successful acquiring a US phone without a US address to get unlimited data and nearly unlimited (in comparison to roaming charges) voice calls?

Similarly, US BB plans have international data plans too.. which can greatly reduce the cost of roaming.

I am open to your ideas, and note, i do not have a US address to use at the moment..

I'm not sure what the policy is as far as getting a PO box at a Mailboxes etc. (or the UPS store, I think it is now), and carriers don't actually check, as far as i can tell. You can manage the account 100% online, so long as bills get paid I don't see why the carriers would care.
