4.1 Should be available, you can download it from the NEXTEL site or see the BlackBerryFAQ at the top of the forum.

Well I don't know about that part I am becoming pretty disenchanted with Nextel. I am finishing up my third year with their Blackberry service and I have the unlimited plan as well. My web, e-mail, and instant messaging is unlimited but we don't have SMS capability at all. Well, correction, we can RECEIVE SMS but are unable to reply as an SMS. This requires that you look up the e-mail address for the sender and reply that way - IF you can figure out who sent the darned thing! This is a huge nuisance for me and I understand that some of the other carriers provide SMS for blackberry so I think I will ditch Nextel at the earliest opportunity.

As well, they called me and offered me a new "free phone" to add to my plan to "share minutes" and I seized the opportunity thinking I could use this phone for SMS, share the minutes on my existing voice plan, and pay an additional fee for unlimited SMS. I don't know what went wrong but my bill went from $106 to $285. I don't want to know what happened and I won't try to figure it out. I packaged their little crap phone back into the box and shipped it back pronto. Liars!

You can use MMS with BlackBerry if you upgrade to 4.1.

You have MMS capability but only get 100 free per month after which they are $.25 EACH. I can eat up 100 texts during my lunch hour. Once you open the door with your friends about texting capability, they will text you freely. With my volume of incoming and outgoing, I could conceivably go to sleep and wake up in the poor house. I had them put a "pay-as-you-go messaging block" on my account to prevent that. Now I am back to the red X.

The biggest problem I had is that the person I chat with the most (a non-Nextel, non-bberry user) has some sort of "e-mail delivery conformation" that they are unable to turn off. So when we get going with the e-mail, they receive everything I send plus a confirmation on everything they send and their mailbox gets jammed up with crap. SMS does not leave the additional item on their phone so it would be ideal for me to have it.

But this is an imperfect world we live in

ww.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=C8ED21DB4F678F3B13B9D5EE16489088

Here is the link for the upgrade...

Oops - it is telling me that I am unable to post links to urls until after I have posted at least 10 times so jot down the above and add the extra "w" in the most obvious place.

I could care less about SMS. I do email! All of the above is free and all you want to do of it. Unlimited for Nextel is just that.

Nextel has been good to me and coverage in Jacksonville and north Florida is plenty good.

Wirelessly posted (7100I: BlackBerry7100i/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/103)

Bigmatt, you can get the software upgrade on the Nextel site. Log into your bb account & you can then download the upgrade. I use mms regularly, but I have the 7100i.

If you want to SMS you have to add it. $15 for unlimited plus $40 for BB data . . . hmm . . .
