Identifying an older Blackberry model
Hey, can anyone help and tell me what model a
BLACK Casing, it is a 7280 model like but isnt, nor is it a 7230
i need to find the proper software but i am unable to find it.
Currently it is just flashing a red light 3 times, can someone tell me what model this is
Normally under Options (possibly under Settings or Tools) click on About. The first line should identify what model the device is.
I know you can get the PIN number on the back of the BB and RIM Support can tell you the model that you have, so you can get the proper HH code to reload the HH. You can also just download the 7230 and 7280 HH code and when you connect the BB to your computer it will only load the proper version for that handheld. (Unless you delete the xml file - but this can also harm the BB if you dont have the proper handheld code).
okay it says model # R6220GW
not sure what that means. googled it and came back as BlackBerry 6210
but i need to know which carrier it was
It's a BlackBerry model 6210. You can download new software for it from your carrier. Exact locations are in a sticky thread at the top of the General BlackBerry discussion forum
I should have mentioned that as long as you don't alter the XML files, only the correct provider / device OS will install. If you try more than one, uninstall the first before installing the second.
In the US it was blue. Possibly black in Canada or UK/Europe. Also, it could be a 6220, which has a slightly different radio.
do you guys think its a 6220
how will i know like right now i've tried 6210 and it says cant find any software
does that mean i have the wrong one ?
The 6210 and 6220 use the same software.
Here are the steps (make sure you don't miss any):
- Download the handheld OS
- Execute the program you just downloaded
- Locate and delete VENDOR.XML from your C: drive
- Start Desktop Manager
- It should try to read the software from your BB and install any newer software
did the 6210s have colour screens or black and white
because the one i have has a colour screen.. and it was in a black casing
Black and white.
Color screen are the 7200 series.
Could be a 7210, 7230 or 7280.
Does not make sense that it says R6220, but I don't have the BB in hand.
One other thing. Courtesy of a Google search ( http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...ackberry%2ecom), I looked through all the firmware downloads available on the Blackberry sites (some vendors like Verizon and T-Mobile host their own, but most host right from Blackberry.com). Here are the only vendors I found that had any 6200 OS downloads:
Vodafone UKAll Blackberry documentation starts here.
Since it has a color screen, it can't be a 62xx series. They were all black and white.
