That's because all of the debugging code is still in the OS and active. It's called a beta for a reason...

It is possible to install without some of the debugger interfaces being activated, but it doesnt change too much at this point in devel. But i recon that it wont change in speed that much with all th extra visuals it has. The worst thing is windows explorer, its gone the way of word 2007. lol

I think the Search indexing and the Search interface are the worst features of this OS, so far, although in a real-world environment, I'd likely never use searching functionality anyhow (sans in Outlook). I suppose its a plus that they didn't put a retarded-looking dog as a 'search companion' though.

There search system was developed th way it is as they expect windows file system to be ready in time, then the search is critical as the files are not nierarchically structured but more as an sql db like on a palm or bb or anyother non ms small device.

okay, so i just reformatted.....YET AGAIN, so i think most of my problem was that i had it set up to dual boot. so i got rid of xp and i'm running just vista now, and it's running WAY smoother.

so it seems to me that microsoft is jumping on the nVidia bandwagon. I did some looking around on the internet and i've been seeing a pattern.

People with nVidia gpu's = runs vista smoothly
People with ATI gpu's = runs vista like crap

has anyone else noticed this?

I've got it running up here at work on an Athlon XP 2400+ (2.0GHz) with 1GB of RAM and some 64MB nVidia video card - works fine, and I don't really notice any unexpected slowness.

Desktop Manager installs just fine on Vista. The drivers provided by RIM install the handheld just fine. The interaction between Vista and the handheld does not work - the handheld is not detected, despite the non-Vista drivers being installed (getting the USB is not sufficient error on the handheld). Desktop Manager is also not compliant with Outlook 2007 Beta 2 (atleast not in cached mode configured for an Exchange-residing mailbox). With Desktop Manager 4.1.1, it atleast will open up - previous versions of BDM just crashed with Office 2007.

At any rate, with the release of Beta 2 to the public for Vista, and RC1 within a few more months, I think RIM needs to jump on the bandwagon and release software and driver support for both Vista and Office 2007. As of now, no new code will be added, thus we're pretty much in the final stages of the OS (bug fixes will be made, but that should affect driver design and support for attached devices).

I am running Outlok 2007 beta 2 and have no problem syncing my 8700c with it.

Installed vista beta 2 for a day then removed it from my laptop. Slow and buggy! The interface is sweet but I think I will await Vista with the SP2 release

Gateway NX560X Laptop
1024 MB Ram
80GB HD
128 MB Video

I did the clean install from boot... Never tried the upgrade from XP install. Vista would not load my SATA drive which might have been some of my problems, No sound (yup even downloaded the ac97 vista beta drivers) and my gosh donxxx8217;t ever try to reboot or shutdown... It's a 5 minute process..

I was able to get my contacts to sync with Office 2007 but calendar did not work with Outlook 2007.

I have since removed Vista, Office 2007 and IE 2007.. Love the look and feel but way to many bugs and issues for me.

Its interesting you noted this... my desktop (which has a nVidia 6600GT video card) and my laptop (which as an ATi Radeon X300 video card) are night and day; my desktop flies, while my laptop is fairly slow at rendering the GUI. Even after I install the ATi-based drivers, the rendering is still slow.

I really wonder if MS is going the way of nVidia?

I'll have to check the beta newsgroups..

Iv noticed the same, its been like that since beta 1. Beta 1 would only boot under safemode or with the basic "standard vga" drivers on my ati card, but my old laptop runing an intel thing ran, semi smothely. Might just be more nvidia developers colaborating at the early stages.

Default ati nvidia

i doubt ms would screw 1 gpu it is probably just atis crappy drivers. furthur more ms has a pretty good thing with ati being the gpu for 360. so i can be sure ms is not playing faves unless it was the other way around after nvidia dumped ms for ps3
