Default Could not send BIS email tonight ... RIM servers blacklisted!!

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I have a non-integrated/BIS email.

I tried sending some email while on the road tonight.

Looks like some of RIMs servers had been added to the CBL Blacklist (cbl-dot-abuseat-dot-org)

They were 216.9.248.50, 216.9.248.49 and 216.9.248.48.

The SPAMHAUS block list (www-dot-spamhaus-dot-org) is a very widely used RBL blocking list and incorporates the CBL Blacklist.

So any emails I sent to ISPs that use the Spamhaus list - were bouncing back.

It looks like someone has manually removed them now - but its an automated blacklist; so presumably they could get back on.

Is there any way to get this info to RIM - I called Rogers (my carrier) and although they were helpful - they just kept telling me it couldn't happen; that RIM was super-secure and used by government.

I tried explaining to them that that didn't have anything to do with spam.

For a start - to be 'ultra-secure', you need a BES configuration.

and while BIS may be secure - secure doesn't have anything to do with spam.

I could spam you here and now if I wanted to, using my Blackberry.

Anyone else have any problem this evening?

Does not sound like a RIM problem but a problem on someone elses side. Do not blame Blackberry for the bafoonery of others

I just checked SPAMHAUS and none of those IPs are listed.

They came off spamhaus about 3:30 am EDT.

I wasa watching them in my hotel room.

They were on spamhaus XBL as a result of being on the CBL list.

The CBL list is tightlipped on what gets you on their list; they just say its automated.

btw, I wasn't suggesting it was RIM's 'fault' - merely that they could be part of the solution. As it turned our CBL has a no-questions-asked removal policy for 'first time listings'
