Default Switching to T-Mobile

Please Login to Remove!

I have been using a BB 8700c with a Cingular voice and BB plan. I haven't been happy with Cingular support. It sometimes takes a long time to get them on the phone and then their personnel are not well informed. I tried several times to switch to the new $30 BB plan but was told 4 times it does not exist.

I also don't like using my BB as a phone. I got a RAZR with Verizon which I like. I prefer Verizon's network but also want GSM for when I am out of the country.

My BB is unlocked so I switched to T-Mobile yesterday. I signed up for the $30 BB unlimited plan. Voice (which I won't use much) is 20 cents a minute.

The web is working fine but I cannot set up my BB at My T-Mobile. BB support is nice and they are easy to reach. They say this is a known issue at their end and it has been going on all day. The rep did not have an ETA. In the meantime I can't get my e-mails. It is nice however to be able to get help without waiting in a long cue. I hope the issue is resolved soon.

I just wanted to share my experience.

I realize that your BB is unlocked, but the fact it is a Cingular device, meaning that it includes some Cingular customization and firmware changes, could that be part of the problem.

Web access and phone work. T-Mobile support says the problem is at their end. And others here use the 8700c on T-Mobile.

As far as I know, T-Mobile have to do something so the T-Mobile BIS will accept the BB's PIN as a T-Mobile device. Just unlocking the device is not enough unless you're on a BES.

I presume the Cingular BIS still thinks that PIN belongs to 'it', too...

When I signed up for service the rep put the PIN and the IMEI in the T-Mobile system.

Cool. Good when a Customer Services organisation know what they're doing

This really isn't an issue in my experience. I've used Cingular 7290's and 8700's with both TMO and Cingular (and vice versa) without any problems. The devices are pretty much identical at this point in the game. Sometimes the needed service books don't get pushed out properly but that doesn't have anything to do with the devices themselves.

I gotta say that T-Mobiles support has always been easy to reach over the phone and very helpful. Even emails are replied to very quickly. A huge change from my previous provider.

I have to agree with the above post. I just called t-mo and they were really helpful and cleared up my problems. I think it's a really good company to deal with so far...

Default Still Waiting for BB Service on T-Mobile

Thank you for all the helpful replies.

I am not on BES.

I called T-Mobile again and got a very helpful rep who said that RIM and T-Mobile are having problems. He said they are due to weather. He also said that 50% of RIM's customers are not getting service. He said RIM and T-Mobile are working on the problem but do not have a time frame for resolving. He was very nice. I will see what happens.

I have a Cingular BB for work and it is working fine except that all my emails are coming in opened even before I open them.

…now that was a helpful post. I admit that T-Mobile isn't particularly strong in the armpit of the US (NJ), but you're generalizing.

Well, T-Mobile resolved the issue. My 8700 was still registered with Cingular. T-Mobile connected me to RIM tech support. They changed it over to T-Mobile and stayed on the line with me while I set up my email account and then sent me a test email to make sure it works. I am a happy camper. I MUCH prefer the T-Mobile BIS web interface and feel that $30 a month is a good deal for getting my emails when I am away from home ($1 a day). T-Mobile also answers the phone a lot more quickly than Cingular. I just couldn't take it any more. Just my 2 cents.

All features are working fine and I prefer the T-Mobile web hompage to Cingular's homepage. It's also easier to add and delete features on the TMO website than on Cingular's.

Good to see things work out for you. To me no carrier is paying me to use them so if you find a carrier your happy with go for it. Then enjoy your blackberry!
