Default Overseas service/providers?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi - I'm shopping for a BB. Probably gonna go with the 8700g. The part that confuses me has to do with the service/providers/plan. As I understand it, I have to buy a service plan with the phone if I don't already have one (which I don't), and this is limited to a local area in the US. I am an American living overseas (Sri Lanka), and I visit the US once a year for R&R. I travel around Asia fairly frequently, and occassionally elsewhere around the world. I will be using the BB mainly in Sri Lanka but would like to be able to use it wherever else I go. So in terms of choosing a plan, would it make more sense for me to buy the BB in Sri Lanka instead of off Amazon, for example, where I'm limited to a local area in the US? Or would it not make so much of a difference, and could I just choose the area in the US I visit the most? Please help me clarify how this works - thanks.

why not call your local carrier?

Get a GSM/GPRS blackberry if you want it to be able to travel overseas. Roaming is expensive, check with your carrier on roaming prices.
