Default BIS filter question

Please Login to Remove!

I have a question about filters on BIS (T-Mobile in my case):
One of the filter options are: "new mail arrives". You can select to have it forwarded to your device or not. In the help system this filter is described as follows "Select this option if the filter only applies to new email messages."

What I do not understand is the difference between this filter and checking the box for "When no filters apply: Forward messages to handheld" in the general filter settings.

Has anyone looked into this? To me they seem to do the same thing. Am I missing something?

OK, I could probably answer this better, but my vision is blurry from a lack of food and too much coffee. I'll just tell you how I have it set up on BIS.

I have only a limited number of email addresses that should be legitimately going to my address (mail forwarded from work and my wife), so I set up filters for those addresses only. I then check "When no filters apply: do not send messages to handheld." This way I only receive messages from those specific addresses and not any spam (because my sisters OE addressbook got broadcast across the Internet and I now get lots of it).

I assume the opposite setting "When no filters apply: forward messages to handheld" would be for the opposite situation, when there are more addresses you want to receive from than you don't.

i believe the difference is that if you set up a filter to forward "when new emails arrives" you can choose to set it as a level 1 notification

w/ BIS 1.8 this was an option for your main filter - w/ BIS 2.0 you can only set the main filter to forward or not

hope this helps
