Hi,

I wanted to try Yahoo Messenger on my BB 8700, went to ....blackberry.com/yahoodownload but the BB browser can not do it, I get HTTP Error 500 ("wml not well-formed").

What am I doing wrong?

Make sure you are using the Internet Browser to go to the website instead of the WAP(carrier) browser. Btw, if you are Cingular, the messenger will not work since Cingular has not opted for the messenger service as of yet.

Pardon my ignorance, but how do I distinguish them? I have one browser only (called "Browser" vers. 4.1) and it works for most websites.

When your in the browser, click the trackwheel and go to options and then browser configuration. At the top of this screen, it should give you the name of the browser.

Another way to test is go to google.com. If you load the page and you see the Google logo as a picture then your using the Internet Browser (HTML browsing). If all you see is text then your using the WAP browser (WML browsing).

You can also lightly press the "W" from the home screen and "B" from the home screen to distinguish between carrier browser and regular browser (must have "dial from home" turned off in Phone options).

I usually install this from the website while my BB8700 is connected to PC is works fine. I have loaded Google Talk and Yahoo IM same way..

Well, just for the record: I apparently have the internet browser (can see Google with logo and such) but the problem still exists as described above. I have a German BB from Vodafone, the browser is called Blackberry Browser and have therefore a hard time to compare with US BBs. Will have to resort to PC installation, as it seems (which I don't do often, just to much messing around. One a of the great features of BB is this OTA installation).
