Sometimes my Nextel BB will sit for a couple of days, and the battery dies (relatively fast on Nextel phones). So a couple of days later I swap the battery with a fully charged one, and the Blackberry boots up, and I get a dialog box which tells me to verify the current date and time. Sure enough the date and time is set to the default time/date (because the BB lost all power). I understand this happens, and have no problem.

Where I am a little bothered is that I have my time and date setup to get the information via the 'network' (in the Time/date options). It never gets it via the network on its own. I have to go to Time/Date -> click the wheel -> click update time. It THEN goes out to the network, and gets the current info. I then exit and save. Seeing that I have it set to go to the network, why do I have to do it manually?

First of all, of course the battery can die, especially on handhelds like the Blackberry. Even when you shut a handheld off, it still has functions running like date, time, calendar, and alarms. No matter what, the phone will die whether it takes one or two weeks.

As far as the Network Update, maybe it only uses the network to keep current on a certain cycle like once a day. Let's say it checks every day at midnight, if you turn it on at eight in the morning, it's not time to check the network. Next time, try not manually updating the time and date for one day and see if the phone fixes itself within that day.
